Texas to Durango (The Early Edition)

1. Focks & Diane
2. Melvin & Johna
3. Mickey & Deb

We are leaving on Monday, August 18, for our trip to Durango.

My plans are to leave Plano @ 9:00a. for a nice leasurely drive to Amarillo. I'll be staying The Hampton Inn, I-40west.

Tuesday morning, @ 6:30 - 9:00a, we are leaving for Albuquerque, and should arrive @ 12:30 - 1:00p. just in time for lunch. I was thinking that Weck's was going to be a good place to stop. The tough part will be picking the right one, since there are 10 of them here.

We willl be staying at The Route 66 Casino, we will be meeting up with Mickey,, Deb, Melvin & Johna.

Wenesday morning, I believe our plans are tto leave early enough to go to The Grand Canyon for Lunch and a Photo Op.

If you have never visited the Grand Canyon, this is a definite contender for the Bucket List.

After lunch and the usual milling around, we will leave for a drive back to Flagstaff, where we all will be checking in to our respective Hotels.

"Flagstaff Hotels and 4 Corners Shoot"

The following morning we leave in a mass exodus, with the Western Contengency of SSR's, on our way to 4 corners.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is there anyone else wanting to join us...? Speak up, cuz time is growing short.
We are leaving Sunday (August 17th) and driving to Ft. Stockton, then on Monday driving to Roswell NM and do some sightseeing.
Tuesday morning we will head to Albuquerque and Route 66 Casino and should arrive around noon as you and Diane are doing. Mickey and Debbie are driving all day Tuesday and should arrive at Route 66 Casino around 5 or 6pm.
We are riding out the storm Edouard here at home. A lot of rain and wind gusts. We are under flash flood watch.
See you soon.
Just and FYI. A dam broke in the Grand Canyon and they are currently evacuating folks.. Might want to check it out before proceeding with Canyon tour plans. Hope all is well by the time you arrive.
We are going to lite in Flagstaff tomorrow night and wonder if there will be rooms. The people that they are evacuating might need a place to stay.
What I have read said they are taking the evacuees to a Red Cross Shelter in Peach Springs. Campers, hikers etc in the Canyon were affected, so I don't know how it will affect tourist traffic.
For all those heading to Albuquerque, I heard of a great out of the way steak house that was featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" on the Food Channel. It's the "Monte Carlo Steak House" 3916 Central SW, Albuquerque (505)836-9886. I think it's in the backroom of a liquor store, but the patrons raved about it on the show. I have tried other places, from the show and found them well worth the trip. Otherwise all that's near motel/hotel row are the franchises.
