Thumbs up Daytona Beach Dream Cruise Oct 24-26, 2008

Watch this first post for updates!!!!

Come to the Inaugural Daytona Beach Dream Cruise, October 24-26, 2008.

Activities will get underway for the Daytona Beach Dream Cruise on Friday evening, Oct. 24, and run Saturday, Oct. 25, from late morning until late night, winding down Sunday, Oct. 26 in the early afternoon. See Schedule of Events for exciting details.

One of the special features of the Daytona Beach Dream Cruise will be cruising from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25. The recommended cruising route will be along a 9 mile stretch of Atlantic Avenue (A1A) from Ormond Beach through Daytona Beach and into Daytona Beach Shores. There will be lots of other activities on Saturday in addition to cruising.

This terrific new event will be held the 4th weekend of October each year, the weekend after the tremendously successful Biketoberfest®, also created by the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Daytona Beach area is a super place to live and visit with so much to see and do. Already known for tremendous car & truck events, the Daytona Beach area will now host a great new event each fall, the Daytona Beach Dream Cruise. This event is intended to be distinct from existing Daytona Beach area automotive events. You'll want to continue to attend them, and add this event as a must see and must do, as well.

One thing to ask also maybe what year cars or trucks can join in the show. Unlike the TURKEY ROD RUN they don't seem to like SSR's I'm sure we can win them over but be nice to know first hand the years allowed?? Just a though.

I spoke with Rick D'Louhy, man in charge, last night. Unlike the Turkey Run turkey, he was all excited about the SSR. At one point it sounded like he was trying to sell me on how cool the truck is.
Here's what I have so far:
Friday night will be some sort of Kick-off. Not sure on details yet.
Sat and Sun cruising up and down an 8 mile stretch of A1A. Different clubs will be set up along the route.
He has been in contact with the Speedway and they are working on something there.
Crane Cams is sponsoring an open house and tour at their plant.
No fees for participating.
A web site has been set up at daytonabeachdreamcruise.com. Still in preliminary stage.

Nothing is set in stone yet. Still working on sponsors and events.

This will be held October 24-26, 2008. I know its a long way off but anyone interested???

Those of you that were on the daytona run in August. How was the hotel you stayed at? Do you think it would make for a central meeting place for us or should we start scoping out another one?

Lets keep this thread open for ideas, suggestions, plans and new info.

I'm starting the hunt to find a decent hotel for everyone to stay at. I live in the area but have never stayed in Daytona. I've heard good and bad about some of the rooms. Unfortunately there are not enough rooms or parking at my house to handle all of you.

Can anyone suggest a place that they have stayed at and were satisfied with. It would be nice if we could come up with something along the cruising area so we could set something up along A1A something like Ray does up at Woodward.

So far there are nine of you that have shown interest. Any others out there that might want to join in? I know its early but a rough head count would help when approaching the hotels. I'm kinda figuring on 20-30 total.

I like the month and the idea that it's being modeled after the Woodward Dream Cruise here in MI. My list of 2008 SSR things to do is to attend a run in Florida with my

I'll be watching this thread and hoping that some other MI members will be too

Sounds like a great time

Put me as "MAYBE"

I am definitely interested....put me as a maybe for now though.
I have stayed in Daytona Beach, and Adam's Mark was a nice hotel, and so was the Plaza Resort. I don't however, recommend Treasure Island at all. We were at Treasure Island, and had to move to the Plaza Resort ( which i think is the best of the 3 i stayed in)

I can't speak for any of the others...but I'm sure someone will know something!!!!
