Hey Reb-
When I spoke with Rick he told me things were still in the organizing state. I am not expecting even semi-tentative schedules for at least a couple months. We are still 9 months away. Being the first year doing this we all know there will be some problems. If I get any more info I will keep everyone informed. He ran some thoughts and ideas past me and is trying to get as much participation as possible from merchants, sponsors, manufacturers and participants. Hopefully it will work out to be a good time.
The main reason for starting this thread as early as I did was to see what kind of interest there would be. It also allows us time to figure out best options for hotels. By posting the dates members that plan that far ahead can keep those dates open.
I have a little extra money this year so I'm looking around, yes maybe, might, it's possible, not saying no, we will see, it depends, the thought has crossed my mind…
You know I'm a big fat guy from the north.
The last time down there, your climate made me sweat.
Can you get rid of the humidity for me, if we do come down?
I have paid in full, good money for my belly … I don’t want to loose it.
Absolutely come on down here and enjoy the Dream cruise, its a once in a life time kind of thing. Late Oct is still a bit humid (but out of the 90's) and bring your money belt and fill it with Dry Ice instead of money. I'm a Fla Native and Humidity darn near kills me But everything is Air-Conditioned around here so...Come on down. I want to meet one of the more intelligent posters we have!

'Cruise' organizers dream of another popular car show

DAYTONA BEACH -- Look out: A new special event designed to attract thousands of classic cars is heading this way next fall.
The Halifax Area Advertising Authority, during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, approved spending $34,274 to promote the "Daytona Beach Dream Cruise," slated Oct. 24-26, 2008. The three-day event is modeled after an annual event in Michigan that highlights the auto culture and heritage in Detroit.
Rick D'Louhy, event director, said officials expect at least 800 autos and more than 3,000 spectators here the first year. A highlight of the event will be cruising Atlantic Avenue, from Granada Boulevard to Dunlawton Avenue, between 9 a.m. and midnight Saturday. Plans also call for other activities on the mainland, including a car show for participants at Daytona International Speedway, D'Louhy said.
By its 10th year, the authority hopes to attract more than 3,500 autos and more than 150,000 spectators, D'Louhy said. "Our intent is to grow this into a larger event."
When asked how this event stacks up against the cruising that takes place during Black College Reunion, D'Louhy noted the "age and maturity" of the drivers expected here next fall. "They don't play loud music and they don't drive at a fast rate," he said.
Daytona Beach Dream Cruise will take place the week after Biketoberfest, which pleased board members. Attendance at this year's fall motorcycle event was flat this year and the average daily rate also declined. Evelyn Fine, whose firm provides marketing research for the tourism panel, blamed the decline in rates on human nature.
"I think a lot of people panicked," Fine said, referring to area hoteliers. "People were running scared and they lowered their rates when they didn't need to."
Hotelier Gary Brown said there wasn't the demand for rooms during Biketoberfest as in past years.
Sharon Mock, president of the Daytona Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the board other events were taken into consideration, such as the Turkey Run Car Show in November. "We met with the promoters of the Turkey Run and they don't see a problem," Mock said.

Couple of updates:
The Dream Cruise website has been updated. There is some information on the schedule of events. Right now its still a bit open but keep watching as more info gets added.
If you are planning on attending go to the site and register your SSR. It adds your name to the email list for updates (I don't know when these will start. I have not gotten one yet) and puts you on the list to get a "goody bag" when you get there.
After you register find a real nice pic of your SSR, hmmmm are there any bad ones?, and email it in. They have a section on the site for pics of the registrants vehicles.
The group coming in to Daytona next week is staying at the Hilton by the Speedway. If this works out for them it will probably be a good choice for the cruise weekend also. I'll get more info shortly.
FYI: My signature has a link directly to the Dream Cruise web site to make it easy for you guys to get to. Just click on the Dream Cruise banner.

Mike, thanks for getting this going for us SSR'ers.
We will be there.
FYI: Any Harley (or other 2 wheel) riders, Daytona's Biketober will be the weekend before this Dream Cruise, so why not do as we are going to and just stay a few extra days and get "two for one".
Heck, if Gas and Diesel keep climbing, the rooms will be less than the drive.
BTY: Daytona weather is always really good during this time period.
We have several great "SSR Friends" in the Daytona area and usually get together several times during the week. Pete & Linda always come up. Jeff & Terri always take us out for Seafood a couple times. Now I'm sure Mike & Marianne will do the same.
So, as the famous saying goes, Ya'll "come on down".
