Instrument Cluster repair job

I had a gas gauge that went south. The speedo was also starting to 'jump' and not smooth in the transitions up/down. I've posted for help (on SSR site) for handling the instrument cluster removal/repair. Also got quotes from the Chevy dealerships which ran between $550-$650 (they don't want to repair, only replace the cluster with the same bad stepper motors.

Today I found a shop in Tampa that removed the cluster, repaired ALL the motors and reinstalled the cluster for - get this - $195 COMPLETE! Andrew of DNA Speedometers, Inc. did the job. I can't say enough about his attention to detail.

So here is the contact information. They will also repair the cluster if you want to take it out yourself.

Thanks, that is good information which I have added to our Florida Suppliers List.

There is also a place in Pinellas County that AutoWay Chevy in Clearwater uses, I will have to get that info too.

Sweet!! Glad you found a solution; especially an inexpensive, good one.

There is one other option that you may want to have in the back of your mind for the 'next time'. When I first bought my 05 in 2008 - I thought I wanted an instrument cluster mounted on the hump with the three gauges - so I ordered a 'gauge cluster' from an 05 SSR from Spaulding Auto Parts in Spokane, WA (Spalding Auto Parts - Home of Quality New and Used Parts) for $25 plus shipping - and what I got was the entire gauge cluster for the dash (speedometer, tachometer, oil, fuel, the entire pod)! I believe the shipping was about $25 as well. I ended up selling it for my cost to someone else on the Forum - but since then, have purchased my 06 GTO spoiler from Spaulding and researched other items.

I know that there is some magic that the Chevy dealer needs to do to match the pod to your SSR - to sync it to the vehicle it is being used in - and I'm sure someone that is knowledgable in what matching needs to be done will jump in here and explain it for all of us non-mechanics. As I said - this is just one more source of replacement parts at our disposal.

Sounds like a KEEPER to me, jpaintmat.

You are absolutely correct with your assessment of a dealer's approach to this problem. The Doophus had a similar speedometer problem a few months ago and the cluster was replaced at just under 700 bucks. As far as I know, no attempt was made to repair . . . just replace and toss.

Thankfully, covered by GMPP.
