Looking for some help/advice in south florida (Davie/Ft.Lauderdale area)
Hello. I am the proud new owner of an 06 ssr in aqua blur. I wanted one ever since i went shopping with my father for my first car 8 years ago. I am in love.
anyways, I was under the car the other day just to take a look see and noticed the magnaflow exhaust. There are also custom seat inserts and a pioneer head unit and backup camera.
so clearly the previous owner did some work, but I dont know what else he may/may not have done. The gearing is the stock 3.73, but im unsure if the 'anti-sway' bars im staring at are original or not. Also unsure if its been lowered. etc etc. I guess I just want a fanatic with more knowledge than I to give it a once over and give me their opinion on where I should go from here.
no problem meeting somewhere. hope too hear back from you and meet some local fanatics.
My SSR: 05 Slvr born 11-19-04, Flowmaster Cats, Borla Dual Exh, K&N Filter, Vette servo, custom tune, lowrd.
My story will hopefully give you some ideas on where to start. Here it is:
I bought my '05 and did a Carfax check on it that gave the information that there had been three previous owners and where the owners lived. They were all in Texas where I live. I also saw an oil change sticker in the windshield and called the oil change business. They gave me the phone number of the person that was registered with their company. I called him and, yes, he was the third owner. He gave me a lead on the second owner. I ran that down and found him. He gave me the name of the first owner. I contacted the first owner and he still had the original window sticker and mailed it to me. I found out that my R had been modified by the second owner, who was a performance transmission shop owner. He had modified the R with a Borla dual exhaust system, a beefed up transmission, Corvette servo, high stall torque converter and performance computer tune. So, with just a little investigative work you might get as lucky as I got.
Also, if you go to your local dealer, they can run a check on any warranty work that was done on your R and maybe even the previous owners. They can also tell you where it was sold new to the first owner. If it's been lowered, you should be able to compare it to one that has not been lowered and tell. Check in your area for any SSR car clubs also. As far as sway bars, sometimes you can tell by the bushings or even the color of the bar. If it's been changed, the diameter of the bar will probably be bigger, so again, compare it to one that has not been modified. Go to the Fanatics web site for Florida and see if anybody there can get you in touch personally. Car clubs are the best bet. They are also fun. SSR Fanatics are everywhere. I'm sure there are plenty in the Tallahassee area. Our local SSR owners have gone on cruises together, have done tech days, and gone to Car Shows. Good luck.

Hi,
I would suggest you stay in touch with Dicktator and go to our next tech day in Florida. You will be surrounded by folks who know as much about SSR's as anyone on the planet. Mike in AZ sells some terrific aftermarket kits to stiffen the frame etc. and once they get it on the rack they can tell in a hurry.
I would think getting in touch with Dicktator would be a good place for you to start. He just posted a thread and they are back from CA.
regards,
FloRidah
PS: I suspect there will be a bunch of us at the Daytona Dream Cruise in October. Might want to look that up and hold the date and come join us.
Welcome from Melbourne Fla and Daleville Alabama...each or the other at any given time...I agree, get in touch with the Dicktator and attend a Fla Tech Day...you'll learn all you need to know!!!
Florida Chapter Ambassador Capt' Al is looking at getting a Tech Day together for later in the year.
I am going to Flagstaff and then we have All GM Show Oct 1st, Daytona Dream Cruise end of Oct. Turkey Run Daytona Speedway Thanksgiving. So as usual the Florida Chapter is busy.
If you can attend any of the above events or get with one of the Florida Chapter Ambassadors in your area, they can help.
