He is very quickly being brought up to speed at Ft Rucker...we are in the process of buying a little townhouse there for him, a fixer-upper, something to sell or rent out after his tour. The only photo I have is in my phone which I dropped, George, I'll get another soon! He looks pretty darned good in that uniform...but it's funny when they call the young colonel the old man with Major Mark in the room, twenty years older... I just can't tell ya'll how proud I am of my husband!
People in restaurants come up and shake his hand and thank him for his service.
I'm proud of this country, for the way we're backing up our soldiers!
Just got back from spending the weekend at Ft Rucker with Mark again...he has his flight phsyical on the first, and, pending that. wil; start classes to re-gain flight status immediately...he is SO excited! This means he may possibly be able to one day be an instructor, and, sooner than that, be back up in a helicopter!

That's really cool. We occasionally have guys come through our training program who are coming back on active duty after extended absences. Most are furloughs from the airlines. A couple had tried other employment and suffered from the downturn in the economy. All are excited to get back to flying.

Thanks Beth for the update. Mark showed me a picture of a gunship when I stopped by the Golf shop. I understand what tremendous excitement it would be to fly a monster like that. Man! Joy came home and told me she really enjoys your friendship. Both of you ladies are fantastic people!

Great pix of you and Mark, Beth. Hope this all works out well for you guys. We need a pix of him in uniform though.
See you in a couple weeks.

UPDATE: Mark passed all of his flight physical except, can you believe this? is cholesterol is .06 too high! He's been on Lipitor for 6 weeks and has blood work to see if that's gotten it down the required amount tomorrow!!! Good Lord! Well, it does make sense..guess we don't want a multi million dollar helicopter going down cuz of a heart attack!!!
Meanwhile on the homefront, I'm making an all Red White and Blue Christmas Tree for The Festival of Trees!!!

I work with USAF pilots everyday. Many of them seem to have cholesterol problems too. I think the military must have tightened up those standards.

He will make it. Oatmeal and Almonds will help him lower the Bad Cholesterol.
I cannot believe it has been over a year since my last post here. What a year! Our dear friend and employee, Bob Sanders, passed on just before we closed our golf shop last spring....our dearly beloved golf shop is no more...an empty store front. Mark and I both now live full time in Daleville (Ft Rucker) Alabama...
I drove 7 hours south today to what used to be home...to Melbourne...to an empty house that smells like no one lives in it. No one does live in it....my beloved home...
with all of my beloved things...my windchimes, my plants, my yard, my huge old oak trees, dripping moss...
I'm just here for a few days, to do a jewelry show in Orlando, and to see the kids...Mark couldn't get away....home's where the heart is.

I wondered what happened to ya Sweet one. I hope things get better soon. XOXO
Aw, Thanks Guys!!! Guess I sounded sadder than I meant to! Life in Alabama is really good and we are happy there... I was just feeling a little homesick and...shucks...what do I have to complain about??? MY husband is stateside for the holidays ( and all the days) so many others spouses are far away, or not ever coming home again...or not ever coming home again the same...
I met this one gal at the Spouse's Club on post...husband is an Army Aviator, in Afganistan, THIRD tour, she's here, way away from her home state and family with 2 sons, the youngest has down's sydrome....dya think she was whining about anying like her 2nd home in Florida being a little musty smelling? Nope. Shame on me.

We all have our moments... don't beat yourself up too much... Luv Ya!!
Incredible...looking back over these posts now...to think that, in just 3 months, our first 2 years here at Ft Rucker will be over!!! Mark has put in for another contract, which the Army will now only extend for one year at a time. Initially, it was kicked back because Rucker is over-staffed with Majors, but his Colonel went to bat for him, got the commanding Major-General to sign off on it, so it LOOKS like we may have one more year here...but who knows? We might...with in weeks of his currrent contract being up...
Anyway, Mark was cleared for flight status, has spent not ONE minute in a helicopter, is the Brigade S-4...the money guy. Most days loves his job.
I have found a niche for myself here, doing many street fairs & festivals, (even taking 3rd place in one arts fair!) Teaching beading to the kids in an after school program on post...
We're both learning to love small town life, and life itself is good...very busy, & very good!
