Florida Chapter TECH DAY

The address is 610 Plantation Drive
Titusville, Florida 32780
Take interstate 95 to exit 215. If you are coming FROM the North, get off at exit 215 and take a right turn onto SR 50. One half mile on your left is the entrance to The Great Outdoors, a giant archway with a sign saying, The Great Outdoors. Follow the road one half mile to the guard house. Stay in the left lane closest to the guard house. Let the guard know you are there to see me, Michael Fontana. Proceed one mile to the first intersection, at the flag pole turn left. (The speed limit is 15 MPH and radar is widely used in the park). Follow that road approximately one mile to 611 and 610 East Plantation Drive. We will be using two 50 foot garages. 610 is the home that can be seen from the web cam. That is the house I have provided to Dick for the weekend. If you can't attend, you can watch us work.
The Great Outdoors is a secure, gated community and your name must be on the list to enter. Let the guard know you are visiting Michael Fontana.

Dick, you have my applause and sympathy holding Tech Sessions in July in Florida

Smart to work mornings only, not like the slatherfest we had in Kerrville in '09.

You're an asset to Florida and all members my friend.

Thanks so much Doug for you compliments, we, Florida, are only trying to keep up with the AZ Gang!

Your Tech Days make ours look like a picnic. We don't weld, align, cut, fit etc.

And, Thanks to Mike Fontana, we will be working in a 50 foot garage with AIR CONDITIONING!! So, don't feel to sorry for us.

Yes, Dicktator and a couple of his "hit men" do a great service to their fellow fanatics here in Florida. I would hope that those who are on the receiving end buy them a nice steak dinner or something for all their generousity doing these tech days... I know Dick won't like this post but I felt the need to say something...

Six residents in the park are SSR owners.

The Great Outdoors is a seasonal resort.
There are 1400 homes occupied in the cold months up North.
There are 200 Homes occupied in the Summer months.
It is a 3300 acre piece of land, 20 miles of paved road, surrounded by marsh, swamp, alligators and birds.
There is one way in and one way out.
It looks like a well manicured "Ghost Town" in the Summer. The lawn crews manicure everything every week.
The only thing you will see here is a few people and a lot of Security Patrol vehicles.

Six residents in the park are SSR owners.

Talking Bigfoot

Dont forget the SWAMP APE that lurks around there. About 10 years ago during the construction of the Blue Heron water reclaimation plant we would find huge footprints in the sand excavated from those 7 large ponds near your golf course. The security guards spoke of howls in the night that were never identified as a known animal. Most speculated it was the swamp ape that was seen on hwy 50 from time to time. I heard he/it headed back to the National forest north of there.

Thanks again Dick,

I'll see you on the 15th as early as I can get there, want to help as much as I can, and probably the 16th depending on how much we can get done in one day. Art and I installed the factory trailblazer frame crossmembers this past week end. What a difference it makes. I still want one of the fans you have if one is still available. and Art and I both want the shift cable kit.

I'll buy dinner for anyone who helps on my R, and of course the Morgan will be in hand for you Dick, bring mixer.

Can't wait to see ya'll,

Marty

Dick,

I know we talked about the issue of tools on the phone. What I believe we need is for those attending to bring a few basic items, like some hand tools.

Most bolts are metric, like the door panels take a #7 and #10. Not sure what size the rad support takes but it is larger so a set of metrics if they have them would be good.

I know there will be plenty of light sources but those high intensity flashlights are great to have under the car or for looking under the dash.

Dick...If you would remember to bring along any of those plaistic hand fastener removal tools sets the guys might want to purchase to have in their tools boxes.

Not sure what else I would ask folks to bring tool wise but as I remember the tail gate requires a TORX bit to remove the bolts.

Man, you guys should take advantage of this offer!! You may never get the chance
to get it done for $150 again. To have the 5 new stepper motors installed plus the
face plate is a STEAL!!
Just ask Dictator if he would have rather had him do it then spending a half day or
more himself just to change the faceplate. I think when Dick's stepper motor went
bad, the extended warranty that he had took a hit for about $1,000 to replace
just them.

Yes, $150. is a good deal, if you consider the work involved, remove dash, remove cluster, remove needles, remove face plate and then reinstall and hope the needles are in the right spot.

Plus stepper motors! WOW! I know the stepper motors are not very expensive but you have to know how to solder, etc. Some of us do know and some don't.

Yes, Most of us have had our cluster fixed or replaced, mine was under warranty, luckily. Or as Gary said it would be close to a $grand.

My NEW cluster, 4yrs ago, has new stepper motors that do NOT sweep. Not sure who's or what they put in, but it works great.

Roger, Do the Fanatics have to buy their own Color Face Plates or does your man, Doug have them.

He put in all new stepper motors 5 of them..Changed face plate to Yellow and the cost was $ 150.00 and took about hour on my SSR...

I spoke to Doug and he is willing to come to our Tech session on Saturday and install colored face plates and put in new steppers motors all for $150.00...

Make a post if you would like this done...
I would think we would need 3 or 4 of us to make it worth his time...

Here is mine...

I can't believe we have no takers...This is really a good deal...A $150.00 to replace all your steeper motors and add a new colored face plate...

They are the electric motors that run all your gauges in your dash...Speedometer, Tach etc...
