Window Indexing

Can someone recommend a source to adjust the side windows properly to avoid the "pinch" to the rubber chanel at the top of the window? Drivers side is OK but passenger side needs adjusting. It seems every SSR I inspected during my purchasing forays had the pinch problem but none of the SSR's observed at the Silver Springs event seemed to suffer from that. I must therefore assume there is a window adjustment wizard nearby.

I considered a dealer but value the expertise and experience available here above that!

I am in Land O Lakes, but willing to travel a bit for quality service.

no adjustment to the window is needed.

You must warm the weatherstripping and pull it out for the window to seat properly.

It usually occurs in colder weather...mine had done it for years off and on, but no longer since I used a heat gun (blowdryer works) on the rubber while window is fully seated and I pulled the rubber weatherstripping out around the glass and then let it sit in the sun a few hours.

It will probably happen again when it gets cold...but you will eventually "train" the weatherstripping.

There is a way to index the windows also. It doesn't take a train pro to do it. I've seen it done but do not remember the steps.
It has something to do with rolling the problem window either down or up and holding the switch for 20 nseconds. This resets the computer for the correct positioning.
It is probably the weatherstripping though it happened to me once and I live in Florida, it was after a cold front blew thru. If you search this site there are probably instruction on window indexing.

You can tilt the window top in or out to aline it to the top rubber better. There is adjusting screw in lower end of window inside the door. I had to have mine ajusted at time of purchase from dealer.

Window Tip-In Adjustment - Door

Adjustment Procedure


1. Position the window fully up.
2. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Door .


3. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door .


4. Loosen the jack screw jam nut (1).
5. Adjust tip in with the jack screw (2).
- Important: One turn of the screw equals approximately 1 mm (0.04 in) change at the top of the window.
Turn the jack screw clockwise to tip the window outward.
- Turn the jack screw counterclockwise to tip the window inward.
7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
8. Tighten the jack screw jam nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the jack screw jam nut to 5 N•m (44 lb in).
9. Raise the window and inspect the alignment. Repeat the procedure as necessary.


10. Install the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door .
11. Install the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Door .
12. Close the door.

Adjust Windows for proper seat in weather striping.

Follow instrutions posted by Rebel.

NOTE: Mark screw with marker so you know when you have made one turn.

Thank you for the detailed responses. I have tried making sure the glass is in the proper position for periods of time during hot weather but I will try a heat gun or hair dryer also. I don't feel qualified to remove the door panels and do it correctly. Probably don't have the correct tools to do so.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like a dealer may be a good choice for me after all.

hmmm ... guess I might have to try this, I have a little rain leaking issue at hiway speeds, water comes in at the join in the weatherstripping where the top part of the roof and the back window section of the roof meet, I get little dribbles when washing, but driving in the rain ... got to keep some towels handy, especially the pass window

I use Aerospace 303 and DuPont Krytox 2oz. for the seals on my cars.

Weatherstrip Maintenance

I’ve been looking into which products would be best for weatherstrip maintenance and have decided to avoid silicone-containing products altogether. Through a series of e-mails with Jano and SanDiegoMac, as well as several telephone conversations with tech support personnel at 303 Products, Inc. and DuPont, my personal choices are:

a) 303 Aerospace Protectant (with UV screening) for routine use on all exposed rubber and other select surfaces; and
b) DuPont Krytox® Lubricants for problem areas that squeak -- rubber and plastic alike -- such as the header rail in convertibles, cup holders, etc.

Proper use of 303 Aerospace Protectant requires that the areas to be treated be clean of any dirt or oils; then thoroughly wet the surface with Protectant and allow to soak for approximately five minutes (rubber) before wiping dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Reapplication is recommended “every 30 to 80 days of exposure” or when the water repellency begins to diminish. This product is widely available at a reasonable price. Shelf life is a minimum of five years. Two sources are Autopia Car Care and Autogeek.

Krytox® Weatherstrip Lubricant may be applied after the 303 treatment, if necessary. Treatment areas for Krytox® should receive limited exposure to dust and dirt, as it may remain somewhat tacky and can attract dust; it could also rub off on clothing if applied too heavily. Unlike the 303 product Krytox® is not wiped off after application, rather a thin layer is massaged into the rubber and left in place. Available as both an oil and light grease, choice depends on area being treated and/or personal preference. Care must be taken not to get any on glass or painted surfaces, not because of potential damage but because it’s difficult to remove once it’s on there. Reapplication isn’t necessary nearly as often as with 303 Aerospace Protectant. Distribution is rather limited and cost is quite high. GM sells a 1 oz. applicator bottle for between $69 and $88 US depending on dealership pricing; among other places, it’s referenced in the “2007 Chevrolet Corvette Owner Manual” in the section entitled “Recommended Fluids and Lubricants,” under “Weatherstrip Conditioning”: “GM Part No. U.S. 3634770, in Canada 10953518.” Also recommended is “Dielectric Silicone Grease (GM Part No. U.S. 12345579, in Canada 992887)”; more about silicone in a moment. Chrysler dealerships sell the same one ounce bottle of Krytox® Weatherstrip Lubricant -- MOPAR Part No. 04773427 -- for about $85 US, and the Volkswagen offering costs even more. Online sources include GM Parts Direct (enter Part #3634770), where the GM product sells for $41.34; and Eckler’s, where a small tube of “Krytox® Weatherstrip Saver” grease (Item #A2524) sells for $44.99. Jaguar endorsed use of Krytox® fluid for interior squeaks ten years ago as outlined in Service Advisory “910-01 APR 98.” Shelf life is indefinite.

Thanks Dicktator for posting those pictures as I never know which screw to look for. My passenger door was a problem on and off after getting the paint job several years ago but now it seem like it "trained" to do the right thing.
