My SSR: 06 Black/Silver SSR born date 10/13/05 Expired on 4/4/2011 Vin #122490 Lowered and computer tune
2 Questions??? Who came up with the name.
I was just asked this the other day and did not know the answer, well at least the correct answer.
1. Why was the name SSR? I know what it stands for Super Street Rodster but why. Other cars get name after some event or idea. I am now curious to ours, maybe hoping that there is a great story behind it.
2. Why the SSR Fanatic name? Other clubs or internet sites have different names.

I was hoping that someone would know this.
1 - From SSR - An American Original
"It was also about that time when Welburn and Baker began thinking about a name change. "Slammer" was derived from a street rod term referring to a vehicle that has been severly lowered, or "slammed" Unfortunately, it's also a slang word for jail or prison. The team thought of this unique vehicle as a sprititual successor to Chevrolet SS performance cars of the past, and it was going to be a roadster. Voila! The team decided on "SSR" for Super Sport Roadster."
2 - Seeing as the website was developed before the truck reached production, it was probably a bit of a reach to assume there would be a whole bunch of certified nut cases that would live and breathe the SSR.
It's a great name. A whole bunch more descriptive than "POL" - Prowlers on Line, or Corvette Forum.
SSR Forum wouldn't be nearly as descriptive a name on a large banner at a gathering.

Not much help with #2, Silver Wolf . . .
As for #1, since "SS" (Super Sport) has been somewhat of a tradition for Chevrolet for decades so I have a feeling the name "SSR" for a Roadster was almost a "no brainer" type of decision.
Your discription is not necessarly all there is........ In the midwest where I grew-up in the early 50's and on....Building show cars, the race cars....Sprint cars----Gas Coupe & Sedan then Comp and Pro Comp .....on to Supper Stock......Dagster's (Both Gas And Fuel)......In our area and era, Slammer refered to a "Door Slammer" The other reference to Slammer came about much much later...... from the 80's on the idea of dropping the car or truck on the ground via bag's and other way....Now the looks of the SSR to me, is drived from The beloved 40's Willys Gasser pick ups Take a look some time..........The Were "Door Slammers" I guess it comes down to were a person grew up and what they were involved in.........Just another point of view....Wolfie

I agree wholeheartedly. And, are we not pretty much fanatical about our wonderful little trucks??? Whoever named the forum hit the nail on the head! They are to be commended for their intuition about how owners would feel about this unique, fun vehicle.
