bed carpet cleaning

The o5 I just puschased, the previous owner had hauled a bail of straw as far as I can tell. Here's the problem, some of the straw is weaved deep into the carpet and a vac can't pull it out, duct tape doesn't touch it. How can I get it out? I was thinking that I could use a tire brush, I know thats going to bring a lot of fiber up out of the carpet. This previous owner person used it as a truck probaly once. One time too many. I'm so impressed with this site. Hope you guys will let me be part of it. Thanks in advance.
Marty

This is rather just thinking out loud with no experience or particular basis for this. What if all the slats were removed and a "wet" carpet cleaner were used?
It doesn't take much of anything to be unable to be picked up by a vacuum as we all know and pretty much pick individual bits out by fingernails after any dirt is removed so it shouldn't come as a surprise regular vac won't work.

I would pick the straw out by hand before I used a very course brush. It will take a long time to shave the fuzz created by a brush.

I only have carpet on the tailgate, but when Christmas tree needles did the same thing that you are describing, the only thing that worked for me was fingernails.

Blu/Blk had a great Idea....Shave the fiber that is wore on the bed carpet cleans up so nicely when shaved. I Used old electric shaver that I used on my Silky Terrier. I used it without any guards and as short as it could be adjusted. Btw it was really quick and vac up very easy. The bed carpet is looking good. I just wish that I known that the wood strips were attached by velcro, earlier in cleaning.

Guess I should have mentioned the velcro when I suggested slat removal. Glad you got it cleaned anyway. My next suggestion was to buy a horse!

Cash thats why I enjoy this so much, you learn as you go. It also helps to have a large group of arm chair quarterbacks ready to send in the next play. mabe it works and a lot of the time it does sometimes it doesn't, but that may be where the next Idea comes from. Thanks to everyone that chimed in. The funny thing as I vacuumed the straw seemed to just reappear, it was coming from under the wood strips.

Re: bed Carpet Cleaning

Depends on what type of cleaning you need to do. I would vacuum a couple of times a week and then get a good steam cleaning done every six months, more if you have pets or really messy kids.
