I am sorry to report that I heard from David Horner this morning, that Bevan Cates passed away this past weekend.
I am told that bevan was playing golf with his daughter in Palm Springs when he began to feel not good, sat down to rest, and passed out. An EMS team was able to very briefly revive him, but he passed away despite their efforts. It is assumed at this time that there was a heart attack.
Bevan was a regular reader and contributor to this forum, and his own SSR, built up by David Horner at Restoration Specialties, with lots of advice from Bevan's good friend Mike Campbell, was well known both here in Texas, and later in Palm Springs, where Bevan and his wife Smokey moved last year.
I myself worked very briefly on the tuning for Bevan's SSR, and I also tracked down the cause of the hard starting he briefly experienced with it after the mods (loose camshaft position sensor). I didn't know Bevan nearly as well as David and Mike Campbell did, but could see that he was a man with considerable drive and meticulous attention to detail.
So sorry to hear this about Bevan, we meet Bevan and Smokey at Kingsburg last year was impressed with Bevans humor and generosity, what a nice man and a wonderful couple.
What a sad piece of news that is. I got a chance to meet with Bevan when we built a transmission for his exceptional Supercharged Red SSR. Anyone who has seen his truck can tell you he was a true Fanatic and he was a charming and enjoyable fellow to spend time with. I am thankfull for having gotten to meet him as I'm sure anyone who ever did can tell you. May God grant his family peace and comfort.
Sorry to hear this. We had a little get together out in Palm Springs when he first moved here from Texas. Condolences to his friends and family.

Positive thoughts go out to Smokey and the Cates family. Was a guest at his home in Palm Springs just after he had moved to So Cal. He was truly an SSR addict, showing us all the bling under his hood and demonstrating the upgrades on his engine. He will be missed.
My SSR: 05 6 speed black has a K&n cold air kit descreened and Diablo tuner & Eric's hood
Bevan is the first SSR owner I met as soon as I got mine. I went to a car show up in Marble Falls. He was the nicest guy and made sure I knew about this forum and joined it before he moved West. A true gentleman, I will miss him. to him and his family.

Very sorry to hear about Bevan. I met him last fall at the Palm Springs Car Show - this was before I purchased my SSR, so I was asking him alot of questions. I was trying to zing him a little about being an Aggie - but he would zing me right back and we both would be laughing.
Seemed like a very nice gentleman.
