I finally own one myself! As you can guess by my forum name "BLACKIE," it is a black one. I bought it about three weeks ago from Chase Chevrolet in Stocktoon, Ca. It's a very clean '04 with 21 K miles on it. Chase also has a '05 and a '06 in stock as I type, both with big engines. I liked the small engine '04 that you see here better .....
I'm starting to get familiar with my rig and I'm liking it (as I knew I would) I liked these rigs from day one. I talked to Mike out in Texas and he clued me in about this site. Thanks Mike! I been all around it this morning and it's GREAT! I have a lot of questions to ask, as Mark from American Chevrolet already knows! I'm just getting started on my '04. I'm very happy to be a member here, and learn from the other members that have been there.... and done that.

A big welcome from central Illinois!
That looks like a very nice SSR you bought.
You'll find many great people and a lot of good information & products here at this site. Let the fun begin!
Yep..... I'm from NORCAL, it's not a bad place to rest your neck. Man-o-man I'm having a H... of a time tring to get my avatar to stick I have shrunk it down to the accepted size. Maybe a moderator can step in and I'll send him my avatar in a PM and he could go in and adhere it for me? Any who..... Onward, again thank you for the warm welcome to this forum.
I've been a Chevy follower since day one at the age 16 when I got my driver's license. I was tooling around in a body rotted 1957 Chevy pick-up complete with floor starter, straight six and a granny four speed and love'n every minute of it. That good old pick-up later had a 440 magnum/727 /Dana 60 stuffed into it. Hey...... I was 17 years old at the time and the Mopar running gear was offered to me at a cheap price. What a tire roaster! Didn't have a clue about pinion angles and such. It also was a U-joint buster when I was roasting them hides.
As I grew older, I bought my first '67 Chevy II. I have owned three of them over my lifetime, a couple of '57 trucks (Chevy running gear, of course) and a '55 210 post sedan. Here's some pictures of my '67 that sits in the geerage today......
Please ..... Excuse the dust I've been working on it, just stuffed that 400/427 stroker in it. I'm getting close to light'n it off.
A few years back, I found a "real" '71 Meyers Manx in a barn up in Yosemite. It was a basket case and was used to hunt out of. I rebuilt it from the ground up in my geerage not knowing anything about H.P. Bugs and the history of the Meyers Manx dune buggy. I learned though and met Bruce Meyers down at the Irvine classic. The buggy sits next to the Chevy II.....
I'll be selling that buggy now. No more room left in the 2 &1/2 car geerage, besides I do believe that the "II" never really liked that buggy sitting next to it at all. I can say this because of the "strange" things that would happen to the buggy while it was being built I can't wait to start working on my SSR!

Michigan Fanatic here!
You bought the best color that's for sure. My first new car out of high school was a 66 chevy II. Then the draft was after me in 67 so I joined the Navy. My sister took over the Chevy II and the payments back then!
Thank you for the kind words, and the warm welcome to the forum!
I'm just like all of you out there...... I'm a 51 year old "GEAR HEAD" that thinks the SSR is the best thing since sliced bread, no matter the color. When I saw the Black SSR between the Aqua Blue '06 and the Yellow '05 at Chase Chevrolet, "BLACKIE" just stood out at me. Although not the most popular color, "BLACKIE" screamed ..... "Take me home" ...... So I did! I could not be happier . Maybe all of the owners of BLACK SSR's, should be called "The Black Sheep" of the family
When you start caravanning places with a group, you will find that each one of the colors has it's own personna in your rear view mirror. To me, the black ones always look like the bad boys on the block... Just itching for a fight....
Welcome to the family.
Mike

a saying I've used several times ......I've driven many trucks old and new suburbans, pick-up trucks and even little trucks....none compare to the but I prefer the saying in my signature line
I see that you found the NorCal cruise for Oct 24th thread already. We have a great time! I'm now a former SSR owner, but I'm still in the NorCal group (with my '10 Camaro). I won't be able to make the 24th cruise, but I look forward to meeting you and seeing your beautiful SSR.
Robert
