Welcome Blackie! Looking at your Nova pictures sure brought back the good old days. I love the cool can, the MSD 6, and the adjustable rev limiter next to it. It looks like you still have a Delco distributor in it too?! As far as all the Crane valve gear, treat it nice as I'm sure you know Crane is no more! That "rev kit" especially will be valuable down the road. Who's heads are those? They look like a good sized intake port. I'm a lot bummed about Crane, as I still build 4 or 5 AMC engines a year, and they were the only ones that made a dedicated roller lifter and rocker for that engine.

I finally own one myself! As you can guess by my forum name "BLACKIE," it is a black one. I bought it about three weeks ago from Chase Chevrolet in Stocktoon, Ca. It's a very clean '04 with 21 K miles on it. Chase also has a '05 and a '06 in stock as I type, both with big engines. I liked the small engine '04 that you see here better .....
I'm starting to get familiar with my rig and I'm liking it (as I knew I would) I liked these rigs from day one. I talked to Mike out in Texas and he clued me in about this site. Thanks Mike! I been all around it this morning and it's GREAT! I have a lot of questions to ask, as Mark from American Chevrolet already knows! I'm just getting started on my '04. I'm very happy to be a member here, and learn from the other members that have been there.... and done that.
Regards,
Dave, aka "BLACKIE"
I am glad you found the forum and I knew Mark would be happy to help you out. Did you find some running boards?
Thems is Dart heads with 220cc runners with port work by Gromm's Racing Head Service and they were assembled by them also. You bet I'll take it easy on the valve train. It's running a Bill Mitchell 850 Holley with a machined 750 base to mate it to the 850 carb body. It's like putting a two barrel on a 350, lots on low-end torque. The carb sits on a Victor Jr. manifold that has been massaged by Gromms also.
These big bore strokers won't see a ton of R's about 6,500 and that's it, it's all about TORQUE. RPM range on the cam is 3,000 to 6,500. I'm running a no vacum addvance MSD distributor with a retard/advance box that is mounted in the interior. The cam is a Lunatti 620/262 roller with Childs aluminum short rods and 12.1 Jans pistons, the lower end spins in a spaded four bolt main with Milidon caps and a Lunatti steel crank. ARP studs are used through out the engine, with Hooker headers exiting the gasess thru 3" tubing to a "H" tube mounted before the Flowmaster mufflers .
I have a TCI turbo 400 with a 4,500 stall (that flashes at 3,200 ) with a Art Carr manual shift valve and a regeared first gear. The car has a Hurst line-lock on it. Out back there is a chopped up 12 bolt with a Moroso third member running a 4.56 Zoom ring and pinion, with Summer Bros. axles and their "C" clip eliminator kit. There you have it Topspin, there's a ton of other things that have been done to it in effort to keep that sleeper look.
Thanks Mike! No, I have not had any luck finding running boards yet Mike! I really donot care about the color either. I'm going to paint them "Asphalt Black" any ways. Until I get some Mike, I have painted the sides of my chassis black. The rig looks a whole lot better

Blackie, that's a wicked street engine you have there! I'm sure you've been warned already, but keep a close eye on those aluminum rods!! That had to be a very tight fit in that block - probably a VERY small base circle cam?! The Dart heads look good and got me to thinking of where Dart began. Dick Maskin was racing a Pro Stock Hornet for AMC back in the early 70s and the rules were pretty wide open concerning cylinder head mods. They got to the point of horizontally cutting two heads apart and furnace welding them back together to make a larger volume intake port. Well Maskin was the first to say heck with it and actually cast up a custom head that was more durable and would outflow any fabricated head. After AMC quit racing he needed something to do, so he took his foundry experience and started developing SBC aftermarket heads and look where it lead him. He's a wealthy dude today! Hey, I just stuck a Victor Jr. on my R, so here's an updated look.
You are a very knowlegbleable gentleman! My hats off to you, yes there is a Lunatti solid roller cam in there that was ground down by Lunatti to clear the rotating parts Man-O-Man with "Cash" that is one bad looking Wammer-Jammer you put together Very Clean! Very Clean indeed
hi from the UK super looking truck buddy.. i'm still looking for my Black SSR imo its the best color for all vehicles.. pain in butt to keep clean but look awesome when they are,,, and black ones are always faster lol

$, Thanks for the kind words. How's that bum Samuelsson doing for your Canucks? I thought I saw he had 4 goals already - that would tie for the goal lead on the Wings!
Blackie, Thank you too for the compliments. I was lucky to grow up in the hot rod era in a really great hot rod area - the Motor City.
Thanks guys for the welcomes This place is great!!

Welcome from the East Coast of Iowa. If you can't have a Slingshot R, I guess black or red or blue or silver or aqua will do.
Ever since I've owned Ilsa , I've had to guess about her past. There are few if any repair records available on her, so I have no idea if the ignition switch or door handles or battery or any other common problem areas have been addressed; so I just assume that they haven't been and hope that they have.
Now keep your eyes off of ebay or you'll end up with the upgrade bug that I got!
