50's Truck Grill
I struggled with that question for a long time. I wanted the front to look more like the 50's Chevy truck that inspired it because the resemblance was one of the reasons that the SSR chose me. It has always seemed to me that, by leaving the lower grills body color, the designers didn't quite finish the front of the R.
I considered having a body shop paint the lower grills to match the wheels and the upper grill like some have done, but I wanted something shinier to match the chrome grill of the 50's truck.
So I ended up with the stainless steel grill parts from ebay, and I really like them. If you are considering these, don't try to fool yourself into thinking that you will only do the top grill part, or just the lower three - it just won't look right without the whole shebang: three parts for the lower grill sections, five parts for the upper (long) grill section, plus the "Chevrolet" emblem.
Since I'm too cheap to upgrade my membership, PM me with an email address if you'd like to see pics.
Dave
P.S. Where can I find touch-up paint for the wheels? I almost remember hearing that the wheel colors were slightly different between the older and newer models (Ilsa is an '03).

Any further suggestions would be appreciated as I'm struggling here in MI to match the "silver look " of the horizontal grill piece.

You can buy the three bar covers from this company and have them painted the silver or some have had them chromed.....Chevrolet SSR | Kaminari..They also make a chevron bar without the Chevy bowtie in the middle....
Note: It's a personal taste, I did not like the bar covers because the ends are not exactly what is on the truck. They slant cut straight off not curve like the trucks, but some people like that.
