My SSR: 05 Ricochet Silver born 10/04, adopted 09/10
Clayed my R today----Whew!!!
I'm a fairly new fanatic and have been intrigued by respected members of the forum talking about using a clay treatment to remove "yuk" from the finish prior to waxing. So....I decided to give it a shot. I got the Maguire clay kit and Maguire's NXT 2.0 wax kit and set to work
Man what a job but I'm finished after about 8 hours and the looks terrific.....Just like it came off the showroom floor or better.
So, if any new guys want to spend a whole day to make your ride look great, have at it and be prepared to be pooped when you are finshed, but pleased.

I hear you, Spohn3. It's a lot of work, but well worth it!
I clay bared my SSR last week, then put a coat of Jax Wax polish on it. Whew!!! I was stiff in all the wrong places afterwards!
I covered The SSR with some old flannel sheets to keep the dust off, then when my muscles healed a couple of days later, I gave it a coat of Jax Cherry Wet-Look Wax.
We're entered in a Best of the Best Car Show this Sunday in Southern Illinois, so "Big Red" is all shined up and ready! The forecast shows the weather should be perfect too. Can't wait!

Want to spend some time in the garage I just compounded my R with a cutting pad then took the swirls out with a polishing bonnet then waxed it. It took 2 days to do all that it was no fun but the end result is worth it.

the beer afterwards never tasted so good, eh Spohn3 Although I find the clayin' part very easy. It's the "waxing" afterwards that lends itself to more elbow grease

You're on the "learning curve".... you'll get a lot faster the more you do it. NOTHING should be Difficult..... just hold the bar gently and rub...... the clay will do the work. Save your Arm for the Wax! or get an orbital and just hold it with 2 fingers and let IT do the 'Work"... remember...

My SSR: 2004 Ultra Violet completely stock ... for now !!
As I have been a detailer on and off for 20 plus years, clay bar is one of the best ways to get that glass smooth finish, I will do 2 power polish coats of glaze and sealer, then 2 coats of wax by hand ..... That will make it baby butt soft !!!! I always wax everything ... Glass too, that way never have to use the wipers!!! But having all these cars makes polishing time ...... All the time !!! Lol
Gotta love going thru a huge bug belt, and just rinsing them off.
I'm going to clay my SSR next spring. I'm looking forward to see what everybody has been talking about. Yesterday I waxed my car and after being excited about doing such a "marvelous" job.....I took it for a ride. Yep, 10 minutes after the last swipe I was going down the road on the most beautiful fall day in history and all of a sudden a drone (actually a big bird) dropped a bomb smack in the middle of my hood. The explosion was so impressive that the "mess" ended up not only all over the hood, but the window, too. I pulled into a gas station and immediately cleaned it up. I'm glad I keep detail rags along for the ride.
