I never noticed it in the five years I've owned the truck but I was looking at it the other day and realized that the rear view mirrors on the doors are mounted quite a way back on the door.
After I realized it, it looks kind of odd. I started checking other models of cars and almost every one has the mirrors mounted very close to the front edge of the door. The SSR mirrors could have been mounted 6 to 8 inches forward and would probably look better.
If you sit in the driver's seat they do seem to be pretty far back, especially for "height deprived" drivers. Fortunately I'm 6'1".
Damn, I wish I hadn't noticed that. Now it's going to bug the crap out of me.

Hi,
Interesting observation. My first thought was wondering if they moved them forward if it would interfere with the door opening. I went out in the garage and opened the door and moving it forward would not be an issue.
I guess now we can speculate as to why they were installed there. Originally on the prototype they were installed high on the painted bar on each side of the windshield. I much prefer them where they are now.

With the thickness of the A Pillar and the mirrors being forward that 4"- 6", I believe your forward visibility would really be obstructed. Especially at crosswalks.
