Dressing Up the Air Tube Hose Camps:

I've had a few fanatics after seeing photos of my engine bay ask me what I did with my air tube hose clamps. No big secret folks.....just another of the many applications that I've found of that good ol' 1/8" bright chrome trim molding. I put 3 strips of it on each clamp, and you have to break it up in sections to work around the obstructions. All in all, I was very pleased on how it turned out. I think it nicely compliments all the ribbed billet aluminum engine bay dress up items.

If any of you decide to do this as well, the key to making it work for you is getting the surfaces of the 3 clamps VERY clean. I found out that alcohol won't do the job, so I used paint thinner. The clamp dress up strips have been on my SSR for several months now, with no problem, and mine is a daily driver. The 1/8" chrome trim molding is available in 20' rolls at AutoZone and Pep Boys. I've never seen it in Advance Auto Parts stores.

By the way, excuse the glare.....that "bling" wreaks havoc on picture taking.

Like everything else you do.....looking good. My first impression was you "mirror polished" the clamps. Good deal. Looks great. Keep em coming.

Frank,

Thanks!

By the way, from the looks of your avatar, I see some air tube hose clamps that are in need of some attention!

OK, Alex....when are you going to wrap the bellows of the inlet hose with the 1/8th?
That ought to finish off the intake portion. On to the Next ! Well done, my friend...

Oh, you know darn well that I'd already tried that....however unsuccessfully. I even tried slipping the 1/8" tubing in the creases of the bellows section, but I guess I had that darn thing so lathered up with tire dressing, I just could not get the stuff to stick!

Alex, you Need some #M Automotive Adhesion Promoter 06396. It comes in a foil packet and wipes on. Looks like a hand wipe from the fried chicken places. Good stuff if you've used Aerosp/marine 303 Protectant. We got ti from our local body shop/paint store. Works great for making plastic and rubber more sticky. It was suggested by the folks at Aerospace 303 Customer Service, because I couldn't get the stuff off the windshield frame seal when I put the chrome on.

Thanks for the tip....I'll try to get some of the stuff. I have used it or similar stuff before with some items that I have purchased that had an adhesion promoter packaged with it. The way the stuff smelled, I thought that it might not be anything much more that high concentrate alcohol.

Absolutely stunning work, a labor of love for sure. Not sure I would mess with the bellows, if anything I would remove it in favor of a smooth unit like the Corvettes for better flow ..... maybe a super shiny silver one

I think I need one of you guys to look under my hood and help me start that process. In facr, after the 15 of april,.. I might even have some money left.

I've applied to AIG for some finacial aid, from their slush fund.

You'd better tell them the funds are for "employee morale retreat" funding.
