Engine Cover, Chrome?

I was wondering if there would be any interest in a 100% chrome engine cover for our SSR's?

My thoughts were to make one that is a direct replacement and utilize the painted center section from the factory. Alternatively I could do a chrome center section.

I've seen the painted ones and they are nice, just was thinking of some more pop.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I would like one for a 04. I had mime done by a
plastics coating company, and i'm not happy with it.

I've stripped and polished my center cover and it looks very chrome like, matches other billet and chrome parts. It's not hard to do, I've done it for a few members as well, just a little messy. There have been others that sent the part out for real chrome. The plastic separates from the metal if you want to send it out, just needs some heat and persuasion.

There are a few people that sent out the larger plastic cover for chrome as well but the results are mixed. If someone made an actual metal part in place of the plastic and had it chromed there may be some interest.

Good luck

I might be interested if the large overall engine cover were electroplated chrome. But man, can you think how hot that cover would get? In particular the chromed '05-'06 engine covers could double as skillets to fry eggs on!

chrome engine cover

i think Big Daddy from georgia has his engine cover chromed. as far as the engine cover insert , there are quite a few who have the insert chromed. (me in particular and i love it !)

OK, some good feedback. Thanks.

We are making other items currently in a chromed plastic that WILL take the underhood temperatures and looks EXACTLY like an electroplated chrome finish.

I was going to use the original cover as an additional member and make the new cover to go over it. You would not be able to tell. This way the original supports are still intact.

Other thoughts were to change it's shape or add ribs or some other decorative design rather than just smooth or change it entirely. Thoughts here are appreciated as well. Can't do any chevrolet TM's however.

My 05 SSR will be the test subject.

I know the qty's would be relatively small here, just wanted to make it worthwhile.

Price wise, around 350-400 USD. Once I do the chrome can also do CF look too.

I guess Dragon2U has weighed in on this but I have most of his billet items for the engine and would really like more so if a cover could be produced in that same material (that would resemble an engine cover) I would be very interested in it!

I'm very interested and curious to see how your test project turns out. On the subject of chrome, I'm personally still very skeptical about any other chroming process except true electroplated chrome, which unfortunately is quite expensive, particularly for an item as large as our engine covers (not the inserts).

I think that polished billet aluminum on an item this large might be questionable as well. IMHO unless it was ribbed/grooved considerably, the polishing/buffing swirl marks would show up pretty badly. That's why Dragon2U has his billet aluminum engine bay dress up items ribbed/grooved.

Good Luck!

What process would you be using?
I think that chrome plating a plastic part would give you a good product, but if you use the spray process or vacuum metalizing, it would not last as long or look near as good?

Take a look at what we currently make with the material. You cannot tell it from real electroplated chrome.
