Exclamation Extended Warranty

Here is a heads up! I have a friend who checked on an extended warranty for his 05. He wanted to buy the longest one possible. He checked with three places and was told the longest warranty he could buy was a 48 month warranty because his 05 was 3 years old. His SSR is still under the original 36 month factory warranty. Had he bought before Jan 1 he could have bought the longer warranty. So if you have a 06 and want to get an extended warranty longer than 4 years you might want to start checking early. I was planning on getting a 84 month warranty on my 05 in April, when my 36 month warranty ended, but I have also missed the boat! I did make a call to GMAC to check and was told the longest warranty available is 48 months for a 05.

I have an 06 produced on March o6 with a Warranty start date of 11/28/06. I'm now wondering if I need to start an extended warranty prior to the mfg. date or the actual in service date which is 11/28/06?

Art where did you get your quote from?
I got a quote from Dennis Fichtner at Fichtner Chevrolet gmpp@fichtnerchevrolet.com and was quoted up to 84 months 56K miles.
I got the quote in December and my SSR is a 2006 though.
I bought the GMPP Major Guard - 48 Month - 40K Miles - "0" deductable.
Did you contact Dennis? If you didn't then you should.

My friend did speak to Dennis and he did have a good price but because our SSR's are 05's we needed to buy before before our 36 month warranty ran out or before Jan 1, 2009 to get a warranty longer than 48 months. So for those that own an 06, you will need to buy an extended warranty before your 36 month warranty expires or Jan 1, 2010 or you won't be able to buy a extended warranty longer than 48 months. Had we know we would of bought before the Jan 1 date because we wanted a 84 month extended warranty!

Also check with Debbie at Ridgeway Chevrolet, Lansing IL 1-888-4990. They were $50 less for the $200 deductable, 84 month, 5600 mile coverage. Debbie had told me that I needed to purchace before Jan. for my '05, even thou the purchase date was April 19, 2006.

When I was doing my Extended Warranty Research about a year ago, I believe all GMPP's required the original warranty be in effect or at least only recently expired.

I also learned there seems to be plenty of dealer profit involved so shopping around saved me a bunch of money. Dennis Fichtner was very helpful and offered a great price but not the best price.

I don't remember if this was how they handled the 2004 model last year when it became a 4-year-old auto. Guess I missed the boat on the 86 month warranty. Thanks, GM

Did some looking and came across an old copy of the GMPP options back in January of 08 and the same thing was applied to the 2004 model. Guess I snoozed and I lost. My bad.

From what we learned when checking for our 05's, you better check/buy before the Jan 1, 2010 date if you want a warranty longer than 48 months! Needless to say we missed the boat!

If your factory warranty has expired you can not buy the GMPP.
If you have an extended GMPP warranty then you can buy another one before that expires.
I have purchased two GMPP extended warranty's just a day before the factory warranty expired.
I was told not to cut it so close because I would loose out if the factory warranty expired.

Art, You had better buy the 48 month before you miss that boat also.

Extended Warranty

Folks are correct in saying that you have to shop around for the best deal on an extended warranty. In June of 2006 I bought the extended GM Protection Plan from a dealer in PA who offered it at a significant savings off the standard price offered by my local dealer or through the standard GM mailing. At that time the GMPP listed for $1605.90 and I paid $1130, and did not have to pay any sales tax either.

Note also that the extended warranty's price also depended on the mileage at the time of purchase. I purchased with less than 12000 miles on the odometer. The list price for the same warranty on a vehicle with between 12000-24000 miles on the odometer jumped from $1605.90 to $2639.40.

I have a GMPP warrenty that expires Sept of 09. Its the $200 deductable. It would be great to have some prices posted in a thread for reference, so the dealers around the globe can't charge what they want without feeling competition.

Anybody care to post the dealer, price, and contact? We have to have these warranties, and I don't know about you, but I'd much rather buy chrome!

GM Warranty Cost

I don't mind posting my cost. I paid $2050 for 84 months, 5600 miles, $200 deductable on my '05 still in 36 month warranty with 23000 miles on the last of November "08.

Here goes, BudHorse . . .

I paid $1480 for a 60/40/0 (60 months or 40k miles with zero deductible) GMPP. I gave $280 at the time of purchase and 100 bucks a month for a year.

After a great deal of research, that was the best value overall, especially considering the interest free financing plus DOOPHUS only has about 8200 miles on the odometer and will be 4 in May.

by the way, I have the entire list of GMPP options (effective April of 2008) if you are interested, however, I tossed the independent warranty company prices because of the coverage issues.

Curt

The good, better, and best option is confusing too. Which one do you guys go with? That option makes a dollar difference too and I never read which one you guys chose.

Never buy a warranty over the phone without first seeing the contract. If an extended warranty company will not show the contract prior to purchase, they have something to hide. Many companies will claim to have bumper-to-bumper coverage when they are really offering you a low end powertrain plan and just using the term bumper-to-bumper. Beware of phone scams!

Ripoff report

I'm running an online business, so I'm a little sensitive to some of these "ripoff report" web sites. I'm not saying that this particular company is legitimate, but there are a lot of people that cannot be satisfied with virtually any level of service and take some perverse pleasure in a vindictive attack through these web sites. Remember that the posters on these forums are no more credible than the companies that they are attacking.

It's interesting to read and IF they provide specific details on the problem, contract language and company response, it can be of some value. However, it's generally the perpetual complainer group that posts on these web sites. What would be interesting is a "do not sell to" ripoff report. I think we could all pull up names of past members of this forum that would make the list.

I actually get people that threaten to post on one of these sites if I don't do what they want. I know that they are totally unreasonable and cannot be satisfied, but I can't control what they do. Some people are just A$$holes and there is no way to satisfy them short of just giving them their money back and hoping they go away.

Yes you did and thank you but you never gave a price. I did email him though for a quote. We are getting prices here but they don't reveal who they bought it from. I was hoping to save some time and effort here with people that have already done this.

I added the information to my previous post.
The prices I was quoted were good until December 31, 2008.
Go to this thread EXTENDED Warranty and read post # 15 (last one).

My friend found a price for his 05 of $1,710 cash or check, no sale tax for 4 years and $50 deductible. Again had he bought before Jan 1st he would of got a better price and a longer warranty period. His mileage was 10,000, mileage does effect the price. The top is covered. The gentlemen who sold him the warranty looked up some of the parts associated with the top and the parts are definitely covered.

Dwight you can extend the GMPP warranty again. Just don't let it run out.

If he cannot help ya, BlueStreak . . . let me know and I'll forward the information on the guy who actually beat Dennis Fichtner's quote for me.

Good Luck,

Curt

Good Luck,

Dennis suggested I wait until I get closer to the end and then extend it once. I just did not know what the rules were on this. I guess now I do.
He said had to be greater than 2 mo and 2K miles left.
