I am clueless as well, BlueStreak.

MANNY YBERRA
Finance Manager
Watson Chevrolet
Tucson, Arizona
520 292-1500
So far, Manny has helped at least a dozen or so Fanatics and not one penny commission for me. BUMMER!
Good Luck,
Curt, you seem to be pretty well up on all this. I need some input here.
I have an '05 that has a Date of Service of 09/2007, so this coming Sept. will put me at the end of my second year on the warranty.
I have 5,300 miles on SSr to date. I like my Dealer but he only handles the
Zurich Plan. I told the Dealer I wanted a bumper-to-bumper plan (that definately covers the convertible top).
He is telling me to take the "Conprehensive Plan" for 48 months (the maximum length of time offered) which would be $2,556.00
Would appreciate your input and anyone else who can advise me of a better plan and price.
I called Dennis at the wire today since my warranty expired this coming Sunday the 5th and he sold me this same warranty. He was in a hurry to leave for the 4th of July so i didn't get to ask this question.
When you say 48 month or 40thousand miles does that mean 40,000 more miles or added to your current mileage as a complete total of 40,000? i have less than 12,000 miles on the 06..
Was glad to get this nice priced 48/40/0 warranty so thank you for this post.
Tony

I got a quote from Dennis Fichtner at Fichtner Chevrolet gmpp@fichtnerchevrolet.com and was quoted up to 84 months 56K miles.
I got the quote in December and my SSR is a 2006 though.
I bought the GMPP Major Guard - 48 Month - 40K Miles - "0" deductable.
Did you contact Dennis? If you didn't then you should.
Charlie

Good question, Tony.
The 40k is added to your existing mileage. Doophus had a little over 7k miles when I purchased a 60/40/0 GMPP and the official documents from GM stated valid until 2013 or 48k miles.
My experience with extended warranties is that they have been a waste of money.
The last one that I purchased (on a big screen TV), I didn't have to use at all and 6 months after it expired....guess what???
I didn't get the extended insurance on my '04 and it has not really needed and service (due to a breakdown).
In years it's technically over 5 years old but it only has 8500 miles on it so the extended warranty would not have been a good investment for me, so that's money ahead for me, but I'm flying without a net.

I could not agree more, HarleyGuy.
The grief discussed on here was the only reason I purchased a GMPP and, after more than a year, I've yet to need it . . . SO FAR.
Yes thank you very much DOOPHUS this answered my question; i was reading what Harley Guy is saying and i guess one of the big reasons i wanted to purchase an extended warranty was for the assurance and insurance in case something does break. I have only had problems with the bell going off if i put the top down and bring it back up, i've been all over the wiring in the back but couldn't find any pinched wires, so i had it in Young Chevrolet in Dallas last year for over a week and they said they had it fixed by putting in a new switch (guess the swith where it connects when the top goes back up, but drove it off the Chevy place lot and put the top up and ding ding ding. It later quit dinging so i have never put the top down again since last summer. I am not a rag top man so it doesn't bother me but i still want to find a shop to make the correct repair for the top "ding ding ding". Nothing else has gone wrong but i feel better tonight knowing i have another 4 years or 40,000 miles. The years will get to me before the mileage since mine is not driven much.
OH also i think if a person ever sales their vehicle the transferrable warranty helps the sell. I know its help me decide in the past
Thank you again, i didn't get a chance to call your guy about the warranty but i am very happy with the $1210.00 for 48/40/0

Does this help and/or make sense?

An Update:
I have extended my GMPP warranty, for 48 months-32000 miles.
I checked Curt's buddy Manny, and he couldn't beat my local guy here, so I went with them.
what I paid isn't exactly material, because all of the specifics to your truck affect the cost. But I did check Watson Chevy in Tucson, Fichter in Montana, and my local guy. They all were $200 over dealer cost, min. That seems to be the watermark.
As an aside, I was able to lay my hands on the actual dealer cost book for the various warranty protection plans. If anyone is interested in the cost for your situation, PM me. I would need the following:
Year (but it really doesn't matter. The book shows 2006 and older), Current miles, In service date, what deductable you want to use ($50-$100-$200)and how many miles / months you want to go.
Your R must be currently under original warranty, or a GMPP, and you MUST renew a minimum 61 days PRIOR to the current warranty expiration.

Bought my 04 with 7K miles on it last Nov. as a GM certified truck. Paid $1600 for the 5 year 100K miles bumper to bumper coverage. Same as a new car warrenty. I'll never make either limit, but at least everything is covered. Already had the inside driver side door handle replaced and didn't cost me a cent. Well worth the money for peace of mind on what was basically a 5 year old truck.
When I purchased my SSR last year with 23,044 miles on it, I bought an extended warranty from the Ford dealer where I purchased it. I purchased a Ford ESP 60K Mile/60 Month plan for $895.00 with a $100.00 deductible. They told me I can take it to a Chevy dealer if I want as they will acept it or they would fix it. Haven't used it yet, my factory warranty is up in October. Basically after my factory warranty is up I will have about 32K/46 Months remaining. Unlike others I have had a lot of repairs, alternator, rear deck struts, guage cluster, transmission, etc., so good luck if your flying without a net. I may see if I can get this extended when the time comes, will have to see how they treat me and how it works out. Who knows, I may get a 06 FPR down the road sometime, say in about 31 or 32 months!!
