Have you been unable to drive your SSR because of a lack of tires?
Someone was curious as to how many people have not been able to drive their SSRs because they weren't able to get tires for them...so here's a poll for OEM tires select item 1-6, if you have different tires select 7

I have lent hawaiian fun (Ray) in Pensacola a tire and rim so he could drive his truck until he is able to obtain a 19" front. There may be a silent miniority out there who need tires but have not made it known.
In July a parking attendent nicked my Lt front sidewall, it took all day but a New Orleans Goodyear dealer got one from his local distributer ( I didn't want to take the chance of driving all the way back to NC with it) Anyway it cost $325 out the door!!!!yikes, but I made a claim and the parking garage paid for it, then on the way home between Birmingham and Atlanta I picked up a large nail doing like 80 and the wheel shredded the sidewall of the Rt rear before I could get to the shoulder, got towed to the nearest Goodyear dealer and it was on a Sunday afternoon , so we had to get a room (walking distance to an outback) next morning the dealer (great guy) couldn't get me a tire till the next day but he let me drive the shop truck to his distributer in south Atlanta to pick up my new tire, then he only charged me $200 out the door!! Now I'm looking for a new Rt front it only has 20,000 but I drive the curvy mtns of NC everyday!!!2Otters
I went thru this last week and went ahead and changed over to TOYO's. The tires were in stock but I had to have a damaged front wheel airfreighted in. The Goodyears were "unavailable" at the present time.

I purchased (got a great deal here at fanatic) a second set of stock satin wheels - when I got close with the original tires - I had a set of tires put on my back-up wheels - and Just recently swapped out the wheels and tires.
At the time I got the new tires - TireRack was showing the front 19's out of stock... My tire guy had tires the same day I asked him to look around... About $200 each out the door...

Local GoodYear dealer here in Houma, Louisiana informed me that our sizes of the RS-A's are being discontinued due to them supposedly being an unpopular size which was made specifically for the SSR. Can anyone verify this?

ggoat!!!:
I'm VERY glad that you brought this point up. Yesterday I was looking a the www.1010tires.com website, and the stock SSR Goodyear tires were no longer listed as one of the available choices. I started to do a post on it, but forgot. It's not an issue for me, as I have upsized custom wheels and tires now anyway. Just thought I would add this info. I'll probably offer my original silver painted wheels and tires (5,600 miles) for sale in the future, although I'm not in any rush right now.
For those contemplating a change to custom wheels, particularly if upsizing to 20"/22", this might now be something for you to consider in helping you make up your mind.
Not trying to hijack...
Just posted a new tire thread about another option that looks pretty good for the stock wheels. It's been mentioned before but never seemed to get and traction ( ) so I put it in it's own thread.

No tires?
The inavailability of fronts will become a major issue as the original tires start to wear out. Fortunately people seem to be seeing good life from the original tires, but that only delays the inevitable. I would expect GM to come up with an alternative tire if the originals are not available, but I'm not holding my breath
Does anyone know anything about Firestone Tires? They have the same front and back as Goodyear.
Did a little looking. Tirerack does not list them in our sizes. Front is 28" dia versus 27" dia for the GY.
Apparently the Firehawk Wide Oval is made by Bridgestone in Japan so it is more of a Bridgestone than a Firestone.
Yes Firestone does make the 255/45R19 tire, but it seems no one has it and I have been told it must be ordered and that will take at least a week. I have been quoted $201 each. Pirelli also makes a 255/45R19 tire, but the list price is over $500 each. What a guy to do??? Guess I'll try and find the firestones...

Dunlop makes a 40 series for the front. Diameter is the same as the GY 45 series. Tirerack says they are in stock. Also have a matching rear.
I ordered my Toyos Proxes S/T's today they ship from Ca. and should be at Discount Tire Tuesday! I went for the wider size, but they had the 255/50R19 and they were in stock, they have the rears in the exact size of the OEM's and they were cheaper than the fronts!

I called my local dealer an explained that I could not find front tires. I was just wanting an extra full set because of the limited availability. Both front and rear.
They called GM, and had both front and rear within 2 weeks delivered .

Looked all over, could not find the goodyears for the front. Went to the Firestone dealer and ordered tires, they are going to let me know today when I can get them. What a bummer, my SSR sits in the garage while it waits for tires.
