Hey guys I'm Jiro and I'm in the Navy and what not and recently I've been shopping for a new vehicle for myself in Hawaii to cruise around in.
Originally I've dreamed of a Toyota Tacoma to have as my get to where I need to vehicle but as I searched I then went to the Nissan Frontiers as they are cheaper....but then I spied this little guy.
I'm curious about it because for some reason I am enamored with the looks of this vehicle and since I found this forum I thought I'd as a few questions about it.....as in is it worth it to purchase or are there a many number of problems associated with the brand.
This particular 2005 model just has 43,000 or so miles on it....which surprised me since it's a 2005.
And while I still would like a toyota tacoma this vehicle reminds me of my Mom's ole' Z28 Camaro when I look at it...I'll be test driving it in Hawaii once I get there.
You can not help but love that truck.... I moved UP from a Corvette and have never looked back. Great utility, love the ability to have the top up or down, great visibility and you will certainly be able to find it in a parking lot and my stock 2005 6-speed gives me all the perfomance I can legally use on the street.
My SSR: 04 UV, BOD 2-18-04, SN 5550, lots of polished billet, Superchips, K&N - Previous 03 and 05 owner
Hey Jiro,
Many SSRs have low mileage since owners tend to baby them. That particular one looks pretty sharp with the aftermarket molded running boards and the front air dam. The chrome wheels look nice, the tow hitch is a nice add and it might have an aftermarket muffler since it has different exhaust tips. With the plastic bed liner in the back there wouldn't be a problem throwing stuff in the trunk.
Let us know how the test drive goes. There are a few owners here that are from Hawaii that might be able to help you look it over or offer advice if you need it but if it talks to you you it's the right one anyway
My SSR: Ricochet Silver built 11-8-04, #17696. K&N, headers, Flowmaster,Trifecta Tuned, Phoenixed Tranny
that is a nice one and a good price
front grille and running boards and front air damn make that a good look R
its an auto and whoever had it looks like it was their toy too
very nice R
My SSR: "04 Redline. My other SSR is a 1934 Chevy "Vicky"

Anyway thanks for the info guys!
I have an 04 Redline (same color as the one you are looking at)....and I do love it. While there may be a couple dozen R's on island, you really don't see them that often. I am not familiar with this one....but it looks sharp in the pictures. If you have questions call me 395-5465 I would be willing to look at it with you.
My SSR: #23198 06 Blue 3SS #375 of 532 - Birthday 12/21/05 - Took delivery 9/5/06 (2nd owner)

Reading the fine print in the ad I notice that they have the retail price at 26k+ so I would set up the visit with the internet sales dept first to make sure you get this really good price.

What's the area code or is it the same as the rest of the island there.
And thanks for the offer I might take you up on that.
The only thing that scares me is the availability of parts for the vehicle....that and there aren't that many of them so I'm sure insurance is going to be a killing.

Same area code 808. JN Chevrolet is your typical Chevrolet dealership. Of course parts are normally shipped in... 5-6 days. Also you will not find parts (either for the SSR or some matching Trailblasers) at any of the local yards but I do have a place on the west coast that has been helpful with used parts. I don't think the insurance would be any higher than other trucks. Again I'd be glad to answer any questions...call me sometime in the early evening.

I just quoted the insurance with USAA and it's only 200 dollars more than the Frontier or Tacoma. Expected since it's a rarer vehicle.
Also the value of the car is at 26,000 by USAA standards so the loan I have is approved for it already.
YAY!
I'll be up there on the 21st in the Morning so if you wanted to be available that would be the day. And I'll call. Early evening you said? I'm sure you wouldn't want me to call now it's 730 AM there now haha.

It's 1130 here myself.
We are up early...check out previous posts. I'll make it point to try and meet you there....call in the evening so we can get off the SSR site. If it is not raining I would drive my R over there.

Remember what I said about locking in the internet price!
From the fine print:
"Retail Price: $26,995 Extremely hard to find! ...
Mention you saw this vehicle on Autotrader.com and receive the special Autotrader.com internet price! Vehicle may not be exactly as shown. We reserve the right to add or change any information. Vehicles subject to availability."

It will be one of your most enjoyable experiences..We just spent 2 weeks in hawaii , and there are not many places that weather offers so many top down days !! Have a 05 silver, have made 2 trips from Ohio to Fla so far, and planning to go again in the spring...we take back roads and enjoy the country !!! Vic
Well this just sucks. I'm having to report in early today. I'm in Hawaii....but I won't be able to go to the dealership til my paperwork is done. Time to write really fast! Then I'll swing by that dealership to look at it....if it is still there...or stop by the lemon lots around base for a good deal.
My SSR: ricochet silver 2004 all options available for 04 born on 3-26-04
lou i'm sure you help steer this newbie right.jn is now a typical dealer since i heard they have had a shake up of service managers and writers.was alot better just a few years back.
My SSR: 19608 Silver BOD 12/20/04 Purchased 11/04/05 Auto/Predator, Vet Servo
Im in Oahu
I found the at year for year, my insurance was actually lower then my wifes car about the same price new. Its listed as a truck on my insurance and they really don't know what kind of truck it is. I expect that if it was a two door sport car, I sure it would be way more.
As for where I go for repair, I've been only to Servco in Leeward Oahu. I haven't had any major issues and my extended warrentee is coming up. Need to get something fixed or "wasted" my investment.
Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss or meet.
It's must

The dealership kind of put me on edge wanting me to buy to quickly so I sat on it...and instead I got something more economical. I'm a single sailor so I needed something much more portable so I can take my friends out...so I found an Army guy and got a Mazda 3 2.3 liter from him because gas is just to expensive down her for the SSR.
It's a dream car I'll get when I'm back on the main land hopefully...but for now I bought a 06 Mazda 3 with only 65,000 miles on it for 8,500. Was a steal so I jumped on it.
Rather have no car payment than a car payment...and less gas and it's stylish enough....thanks for all your help guys!
