these are assembled from stainless Hooker Corvette sidepipe headers (yes I bought new ones and cut them off) and stainless tubes with Steel Shield custom heat shields (it's amazing how cool these stay).

the system comes right off the high flow cats and Kooks headers, elbow's out through the frame then enters the Hooker collector through the side ( the Corvette headers are capped off so they would turn colors with the rest of the sidepipe). there's a 2 1/2" balance tube that routes behind the tranny. I added some heat shield to the front of the gas tank (although the exhaust guy said with the distance between the tube it wasn't necessary) and around the gas lines (like dynamax has you do when you install their headers). the pipes are about 1 inch lower than the frame and 1/2 inch from the body and are supported by 2 brackets welded to the frame that connect to the Hooker mounting tabs.
everyone who's seen and heard them love the way they look and sound. they sound so mean, a sweet idle, grumbly cruise, healthy acceleration and after roar
having said that, I don't like my black beauty as well with them on.
I enjoyed the sleeper aspect more than I realised, I need to talk to customers on the phone while driving around (it's hard enough with my ears as it is)
these sidepipes are perfect for a ssR that's for cruising around showing off (they'd still be on if this wasn't my work truck)
they're loud but I've heard much louder (and it's easy to make them that way) all my friends say it sounds great and think I'm crazy.
I'd love to find them a good home on another ssR
make me an offer
p.s. I'll figure out a photo bucket account later so I can post sound

Before Hooker started building those 4 into 1 sidepipes for Corvettes, they were built by Kustom Headers. They carried a GM part number to make them legal for A and B production road racing.
I had a set on my '69 Corvette and they are one of the primary reasons I wear hearing aids today. Didn't seem that bad at the time, but after 50 or 60 thousand miles the damage adds up.

5 min a side tops
they work better than I expected, the pipe itself would burn your leg quickly and easily but the shield isn't hot at all, very warm to the touch but you would hafta put a tender part of your body on it for a long time before it would leave a mark

having said that these aren't anywhere near as loud as the ones on my friends Cobra, that car produces a pressure wave you can feel in your chest!
with the STS baffles in my sidepipes it's still loud but not 'ringing in your ears' loud
having said that-
I like the stock sound level much better, and was really reluctant to put anything else on
my exhaust guy talked me into a better flowing muffler that I think is quieter than stock...
it's all in my closet, collecting dust, so make me an offer I can't refuse
Mike:
Now I'll be able to hear you coming all the way from 114th instead of the traffic light around the corner! These will also be great for snow in the winter...no more unsightly buildup around the doors when doing spinouts in the unplowed mall parking lot.
