The rear chrome billet aluminum license plate frame is from MKB Customs (800-338-2134, www.mkbcustoms.com). The reason I did not originally give the info. on it is because with this thread, I was trying to give folks at least what I thought were some relatively inexpensive accessories and add-ons for our SSRs, say less than $100.00 each.

This license plate frame is EXTREMELY well made and great quality.....heck it better be, because it costs $160.00. That seems mighty high to me for a mere license plate frame. But I like the way it fills up the entire opening, and creates 2 pairs of round backup lights out of the 2 stock rectangular ones. That seems to correlate well with the round tail lights and the large round exhaust tips. So I decided to go with it and I'm not sorry.....despite the price.

Hope that helps.

Thumbs up Tag surround

I'm a fire fighter, and am trying to figure out how to put my strobe sets into the SSR, as I've been doing this for several years and have been moving them from vehicle to vehicle. I'm trying to find good ways to put them in but not be obtrusive. That surround is just what the doctor ordered, but the doctor may have ot wait a few days to be a ble to pay the hospital bill!! LOL

Thanks, Dale

Yep, I also have this and it does dress up the rear. I've got mine without the MKB lettering on top. If you order you can ask for the same if the lettering doesn't please you. Very high quality.

I'm glad that MKB offered it WITHOUT the MKB logo on it, because the lettering would not have pleased me at all. Otherwise, I might not have gotten it, inspite of how well it's made. I don't like advertizing for auto dealerships and aftermarket accessories if I can have my way about it.

LS2 Billet Aluminum Emblem:

Since "XSELER8" brought the subject up about the LS2 billet aluminum emblem that shows up in one of my earlier posts to this thread, I thought I would post another closer up photo.

This emblem is made from billet aluminum and is quite thick and subsequently very rigid. There in lied the problem for me. I originally bought this emblem with the thought that I would mount it on the rear tailgate, lower left-hand corner opposite of the SSR logo. Because this emblem is so rigid, and won't flex to meet the slight curvature in the tailgate, I was afraid of it "dimpling" the relatively thin sheet metal of the tailgate in pressing it to attach it well....or that it would not stay attached at the ends.

I then thought about mounting this emblem on the engine cover and I felt I was up against the same problems. Too rigid to get it to lay flat against the curvature of the engine cover.

Thus, I mounted it on one of the few places on the SSR that has a nice flat surface.....man, has this vehicle got curves, seemingly everywhere! If any of you have this emblem and have mounted it elsewhere, please post a photo.

BTW, I got my LS2 billet emblem from Corvette America. Don't buy it there, because I overpaid for mine compared to what other fanatics have gotten their's for.

Yes, my main intention for starting this thread, was to show folks that customizing can be (and to me really is) a lot of fun, and you don't really have to break the bank doing it. Plus all this info. and photos help give people ideas and options of what they might like and what they don't care for.

It's simply Eagle One Wet Tire Shine. I know what some of you are thinking. Yes, it does collect a little dust, but under the hood, since it's relatively protected, it does a good job and lasts a long time. I dress the major hoses with it, and put it on the engine cover as well. Looks real good! I'm sure any of the real quality tire dressings will work. Works decent on the black rubber of your running boards....keeps them looking dark.

I bought this emblem for the tailgate also..glad you mentioned the "curvature". Now I understand why you mounted it in the engine bay(and it looks good there). For what this little piece of crap cost with shipping(from Mid America) I'm mounting it on my farhead.
THE BOLTCAPS? Do they insert on top on the nuts.(press on)? Thanks again..your SSR is lookin good.

XSELER8:

On the LS2 billet emblem, yes, I was disappointed that I could not mount it on the tailgate. Like I said earlier, if someone has successfully mounted this emblem elsewhere, I sure would like to see it. I might then be tempted to relocate mine.

On the bolt caps, each bolt cap has a soft plastic, "3-pronged" (ends turned down) retainer sleeve which you place directly over the hex bolthead. Then you press (hard) to friction fit the chrome bolt cap over all this. I gave you the sizes (flat to flat dimension) of the bolt heads that I placed the chrome bolts caps over. BTW, the bolt caps themselves are chromed steel, not plastic.

I warn you. From past experience, these bolt cap things can get contagious. You start looking for every single bare bolt head you can find and physically get to. I decided to limit it this time to just basically the periphery of the engine compartment, and not get into the engine itself.

Frank, you are obviously aware that this stuff is like a disease....and that it is extremely contagious. But then again let's face it, folks, aren't we all driving very "intoxicating" vehicles to begin with? I'm "messed up" over mine, but then we all know that there are a lot of worse things in life to be hooked on.

High Performance Air Filters:

Another relatively inexpensive mod. is one of the supposedly (see below) high performance air filters from companies like K&N, Fram, and Green.

I know a lot of you already know this stuff, but for those of you who don't, here's the poop on these air filters.

Fram "Air Hog" H.P. Air Filter - Part #PPA3914
K&N H.P. Air Filter - Part #33-2322
Green H.P. Air Filter - Part #2498

The above air filters will all fit the '05-'06 model SSR's. Visiting their respective websites, the Fram and the Green air filter part numbers are also listed for the '03-'04 SSR's. The K&N website did not appear to have a part listing for the '03-'04 SSR's, although I'm not sure why the other one wouldn't work, if the Fram and Green filters do.

I personally have the Fram "Air Hog". Do I notice any real performance difference? I'm not real sure on that.... but I definitely notice a louder "sucking sound". Is that the sound of my SSR sucking air, sucking gas, or a lot of both? Don't know and don't care....I like the sound!

Here's a photo of the Fram "Air Hog" box.

And Now for Some Custom Exhaust Tips:

I thought I would include the info. on a couple of options that a lot of us are aware of relating to custom exhaust tips. I'm talking now about the 5" dia. outlet variety. I know this look may not be for all, but don't get spooked....the rear facia has 7" diameter cutouts, so even the 5" diameter tips fit nicely with still 1" clearance all around. BTW, the inlet is 2-1/2" dia.

Here's the info. on what I've found so far on the 5" dia. exhaust tips:

1. Bosal Brospeed - Part #259-059 – 5" dia. chrome steel exhaust tips
from: Racer Parts Wholesale (800-397-7815)
(I believe there are other suppliers of these tips that are less expensive.)

2. Summit Racing - Part #SUM-690027 - 5" dia. stainless steel exhaust tips
from: www.summitracing.com (800-230-3030)

(Apparently Magaflow will not sell their 5" dia. stainless exhaust tips separately, without buying some kind of exhaust system kit.)

For those who are looking for improved, enhanced exhaust sound, and increased aggressive looks, without spending a lot of money, this is a good alternative. Both of these brands of tips are double-walled and do not have internal resonators for a slightly louder, more "throaty" sound. I have the Bosal Brospeed chrome tips, and the muffler shop that welded them on for me really liked them, all the guys saying that they thought that's the way GM should have made it look to begin with.

Also, for those who have the Bosal Brospeed chrome tips, I finally realized this weekend that they would clean up on the lower lip to just like new condition by using a mild abrasive chrome cleaner like "Simichrome".

Here's some photos. At left is the Bosal Brospeed box and at right is the Summit Racing tip. (You can see the installed tips on my truck in my initial post in this thread.)

More on Exhaust Tips:

I failed to mention on the exhaust tips, that should any of you who have already installed the Bosal Brospeed chrome steel tips and are inclined to want to make a switch back to stainless tips via the Summit brand, I believe that you can do just that. The Summit tips are 10" long and the Bosal Brospeed tips are just under 9" long. It's close, but it should allow you to cut off the existing ones and still have enough 2-1/2" pipe lengths to weld on the new ones.

Also, if the 5" dia. is too much for some of you, the Bosal Brospeed tips are available in 4" and 4-1/2" sizes as well.

To me, the chrome steel tips look real good with the exterior chrome package and chrome wheels, chrome being much more shiny than stainless, although not as durable or corrosion resistant. If you go with chrome tips especially, remember to paint the insides with high heat resistant flat-black paint, and bake the tips in your oven at home per instructions on the paint can prior to having them welded on. From my experience, they will last and look good a lot longer.

If you're like me and you like the look of a hitch, and you leave yours in all the time for rear end protection (by experience it works) then you want a great looking hitch ball.

QMC stainless balls are amazing; they look like a piece of jewelry. They aren't polished, but machined. Very "matter of fact" looking. When I first saw one years ago, I couldn't believe how nice it looked. They are a little TOO nice though; I don't like to scratch them by towing a trailer! I have them on all my vehicles...I'm not paid by them, and I'm not involved with them in any way (although I got a good deal on a few because they used some of my comments on their home page). If you want to dress up the look of your hitch, and don't care to deal with pitted/chromed/rusting/flaking/dirty hitch balls, then check these out. Also, the lock washer and nut are stainless as well (Bully's and Reese's are not, which makes no sense...a rust-free ball and a rusted nut/washer?).

http://www.qmctechnologies.com/news.html

Ask for "Jim"...tell him Jeff Koon sent you.

Thanks for adding the good looking and obviously precision made stainless steel hitch ball to this post. "Marc NY" might want to consider it. I was hoping to get a lot more feedback and posts with photos of what and how other fanatics have accessorized their rides, particularly emphacizing the non-GM aftermarket stuff.

Come on guys and gals, I know I'm not alone in all this accessorizing business, so show us your stuff! Whether I like something or not is not the point. I (and I'm sure I'm not alone) enjoy looking at people's different takes and tastes on things.

Talking Found small Laser Cut Stainless Steel Chevy Bowties on eBay!

I like the looks of the domed Chevy bowtie decal that Alex05SSR put on his engine cover insert. I went over to our local Advance Auto Parts store and they only had an empty spot on the rack where they are supposed to be.

I came home and decided to search through eBay and see what I could find.

I think I hit paydirt for sure! I just bought a cutout style Chevy bowtie emblem that is laser cut from .060" thick 316 stainless steel and high polished. It measures 3.25" X 1.25" and should work just fine for my engine cover insert.

At $17.15, it's a lot more than the plastic dome decal... but still quite affordable.

In case you are interested, the seller is muffinbuster. Here's a copy of his auction photos:

Talking LS2 400hp Aluminum Sticker on my SSR

I ended up ordering out a pair of those die struck aluminum LS2 400hp stickers that are on eBay. They actually look very high quality and are shipped with a protective clear plastic to protect them. I'd say they are of the same high quality as the GM Mobil 1 aluminum stickers which are also die struck.

It took me awhile to decide where to put one. My other choice was on the left side of the tailgate mirroring the position of the SSR logo. I think it looks OK under the SSR logo.

I noticed on his auctiond he had "LS1" stainless steel emblems. I sent him an e-mail asking if he could or would make "LS2" emblems in stainless steel. I will post when I hear back from him.

Great! Keep us posted on that. I would prefer stainless over vinyl "LS2" letters....even with the price difference. Either way, at least this would give us choices.

Do a search ebay LS2 and it'll come up. Its posted regularly. Last I saw he had 3 separate auction listed for the LS2 400HP.

High polished stainless for me. It's better than chrome. It repolishes to it's mirror finish.

Talking Same guy makes filled laser cut bowties!

Here's an additonal item you will want to check out. See eBay Item number: 320013560777

After I purchased the polished cutout Chevy bowtie I looked through more of what he's making and found these. I sent him an additonal $5.00 and I'm getting one as pictured. He also makes them in several other colors and will make them as custom combinations also.

Inexpensive accessories/add-ons for SSR:-filledbowtie.jpg

I am also in the midst of emailing with him about the possibility of making laser cut stainless SSR underhood blanket letters. I will help him out in any way possible to bring this about.
