What year is your truck? '03- mid '05 had breakage issues, GM has a fix kit for them. It's probably not your handle, it's usually the plastic "mechanism" attached to the inside of the door panel.

You need to pull the door panel to determine the problem, takes about ten minutes.

Remove the black cup behind the inside door handle using a soft pry tool.

Remove the 10mm bolt behind the door cup.

Remove the door bezel by grasping it and pulling firmly on it, it is attached with spring clips that will release with outward pressure.

Remove the two remaining 10mm bolts under the door bezel.

Lower the window, remove the door lock cap.

Using the soft pry tool, start at the lower inside of the door panel and pop it loose. Then pull outward around the perimeter of the panel until it is completely free, and lift straight up to remove the panel. If it is the driver's side panel, disconnect the mirror connection.

Lay the panel flat and inspect the black plastic piece attached to the panel to see if it is loose or broken, if it is, that is the fix kit that GM has available.

If it is the spring in the metal door handle that broke, let me know and I'll send you one.

Reverse process to re-assemble. Make sure the foam piece to the door lock rod is in place, or it will rattle and drive you crazy. Also make sure all of the white and yellow door clips are in place. When you re-install the door panel, use the heel of your hand and "pop" the door clips in place, I start at the corners and work up on both sides.

Hope this helps.
