Mike Piazza's SSR

Meet a lady at the Target (Culver City, CA)...who had a slingshot yellow SSR... told her about the forum. She seemed nice... she said her SSR was owned by Mike Piazza... & she bought it after he lost a bet and had to sell it. Fact or fiction... not sure... but she loves it like we all do. Does anyone know if Piazza owned an SSR? Was he one of us!!??? tee hee hee

In the first place, who in their right mind would make a bet involving their SSR! I'm far from convinced on that story!

The Mets gave him one...

In 2004 the Mets presented Mike Piazza with a SSR. I don't remember why. It might have been for breaking the home run record for catchers? I do know for sure the Mets gave him one!

I know someone from NYC that was a great fan of his, I will have to ask if they think or heard that he actually owned one or not.

Yes, Mets gave Piazza an SSR to celebrate most HRs (352) by a catcher

I found the attached note posted on a baseball forum:

For those of us who didn’t get to see it, that was a pretty neat ceremony they had for Mike at Shea.

Berra, Carter, Bench, Fisk. Lasorda and Pudge were all there and the older players looked pretty much the same except for Fisk, who now reminds me of Al Gore. Mike received all kinds of presents, including a Rolex watch, a 2004 Chevrolet SSR, a rather large bottle of wine (not Gallo’s Chianti Classico, for sure) , a glass plaque and an inscribed home plate.

Mike is a very humble and classy individual and it showed throughout the ceremony. Towards the end, when it came time for Mike to speak, he glanced at Pudge and said that “he was already looking forward to attending his (Pudge’s) ceremony when he breaks the home run record by a catcher”.

What a class act Mike Piazza is.
