No wonder the U.S. dealers were charging 10k over sticker early on!

U.S. Dealers would not sell to me, I tried. They have a unwritten rule along the border. At this time the diff between U.S. money and Canadian was about 8 cents on the dollar.

"oh" and by the way the dealers wanted over sticker here also for a while.

The first one I saw was a 2003 Slingshot for $85k. Mind you, it had the expensive paint.
They added 50% to the base price and about 75% on the options.
Could I get a picture of you on the scooter Rebel?
Your SSR is looking mighty fine! Course it should for a $90k truck!

By that time, REBEL . . . I had been SSR shopping for a few months and the dealers in Southern Arizona plus dealers all the way over to El Paso on the East and Southern California on the West were adding between 5k to 10k bucks to the sticker price.

I was determined not to be ripped off and finally found the perfect SSR, The DOOPHUS, 1600 miles away at a dealer in the middle of Illinois Corn Country.

Six plus years and 13k plus miles later . . . The Doophus is still the perfect SSR.

I showed mine to a horse once, and it choked Fortunately we bought it (still new) in '05. And rather cherish the thought that we saved over $25,000

Angry Dealer Greed~

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is probably the biggest reason why Chevy only sold a little over 24,000 of these!

AND THE REST OF THE STORY:

My truck was on the lot for one full year to the day, when I arrived.

I was offered the truck at 34k discount no money down and no interest as the 05's where coming out. They wanted it and a 04 gone.

Thinking less 03's where made and both it and the o4 being the same truck, I thought the value was with the 03. I bought it a week before Christmas and waited for clean dry weather in January before driving it home and putting in the garage till the spring of 05. Bringing it home was the first time I drove it or any SSR.

That summer I hear the 06 will be the last year made. I take my 03 to dealer to see about trading it in on a order for a new 06, black over silver 6 stick. Less than 3000 miles on mine and they offer 17k trade in.

I still paid to much for it seeing what the 05 and 06 went for in the states but I had to have it.
So I still have her and have dressed her up to my taste. She is a keeper for me now.

G.M. taught me never buy first year again, mybe even never buy new. Wait and look for good used deal later.

Well i got to order mine right from the dealer...this is the price if you don't want it could you step out of the line. I wanted the R so i buy the R. Never think how much money, you can't measure pleasure by the dollar. Then the fanatics come along and it just gets better & better.
This is in the top 10 things I've done in my life.
PS It's not like i had the money but i made it work.

Do it again

I've owned 7 houses in 3 different states and I paid less for each than some of you paid for your R. Of course I had to wait 8 years for an R to fit my budget.

Move up here to Canada.
The middle of no where, farmland area, and you will need 150k for a starter home.

But the U.S. dollar is usually worth a little more, till now.
At the time I bought the SSR, I think you buck was worth 1.08. so I paid to much. Thats why I tried to buy in Detroit.

Americans be thankful for what you have. Cost of living basics are great. Food, clothing, housing, gas, tools, are all cheaper than what we pay over here.

GET THIS: THE CAMARO BUILT HERE SHIPPED TO THE STATES IS CHEAPER THERE THAN HERE. AND THE DOLLAR IS IN OUR FAVOUR AT THIS TIME.

I'm an hour from the border & always see Canadians hauling home trailer loads of building materials. Tonight it was a tiny silver station wagon with a roll of vinyl flooring sticking out over the tailgate.
When I'm up North I only bring money for lunch.

When I was a kid, the Canadian cousins would come to visit in a big Buick full of empty suitcases. Shopped till they dropped.

Thanks REBEL.....May be i should get you to come with me when going to the Dealers, something like a bodyguard....betya i would get a lot more respect, & i had to paid up Dec 4th/03....US dollar was higher than a $1.08 at that time. Forget what it was but when i broke it down i believe the 91k i paid was something like 55 to 56k US.
Still worth it to me.

our R has the window sticker as well, $79,000 ... kind of a funny price, but with taxes and everything, that puts ours at a little over $85,000, that's why a ran out of the dealership ... pardon me ... STEALERship laughing! So Tracie said, we will wait and look for a low mile used one in a few years. We found our 3 years ago at a Lexus Stealership here in Calgary, picked her up for $33,000 including taxes, MUCH better, only had 4500 kms on her ... still new, we now put 11,000 kms on her, and permagrining the whole time !!! Plus the SSR family ... can't put a price tag on that !!!!

Talking Canadian Window Sticker

This is the window sticker off my 03 R. I didn't buy it new. I bought it 6 years old and $60,000 cheaper. I bought it from a Fanatic (mikeb326) who bought it new in Canada. Loving every minute of it and putting lots of miles on it since I bought it (22,000 miles in 2 years). Walter:yellow
