New Horn Prep...

I'm getting ready for my new horns to be installed (Monday). I'll post some more info when It's all done. Anyway...this is how I spent last weekend...

1) I painted my air tank Pacific Blue. Just for the record...I made the SSR letters with an inkjet printable magnet. I printed SSR on It, cut out the letters, then primed, base coated (chrome/redline red), and cleared them. They didn't come out too bad...and they're removable.

2) Not related to the horns, but I figured I'd take a stab at painting my engine cover since I don't need it anymore. It's now on DetTweety's .

I'm using these, from http://www.airhornsoftexas.com/train/train.html

I got the 1218 Super Heavy Duty High Volume Air Kit, but I upgraded the air tank with an 8 1/2 gallon black tank (well...it's not black anymore).

They fit really nice way in the back on the frame between the pipes. They would be high enough, and out of the way. The only thing is, they'd be aiming towards the back, and about 30 degrees to the passenger side. Which, I'm OK with, but when it goes on the lift Monday, we're going to take a look, and see if there's somewhere to mount them pointing forward, or straight to the passenger side.

I'll post more pix when it's all done.

edit:

Rats...I got caught sleeping....I should have said, "I have no idea where I'm going to mount them, but when Nancy found out how much they cost, she offered up a solution." Sorry, Anne. That 'being serious' stuff comes up and bites me once in a while...and I'm not proud of it.

DO YOU HAVE TO DRILL HOLES TO GET THE AIR LINE FROM THE TANK TO THE HORN AND ALSO TO RUN THE AIR LINE FOR THE COMPRESSOR?

I don't know exactly how the installer is going to do it, but I'm pretty sure there's going to be some nice new holes in my bed. The compressor will be under the bed also. I thought about putting the compressor inside the bed with the tank to make the install a little easier, but the tank already takes up too much room. There will also have to be some holes to mount the tank. I found out the hard way that it doesn't stay upright by itself. It's a good thing I put 4 thick coats of clear on it, because I gots some buffin' to do.

They'll also be running a switch for the horn, a gauge, and a switch for the compressor into the cab.

The installer does a lot of nice custom work, so I trust that they'll do things right.

I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A SMALLER TANK OR 2 SMALL TANKS AND MOUNTED IT UNDER THE TRUCK ALSO THIS WAY YOU HAVE NO HOLES IN YOUR TRUCK AND STILL HAVE THE FULL USE OF THE CARGO AREA..THAT TANK IS OVER KILL FOR A SET OF HORNS .PLUS ITS GOING TO TAKE THAT COMPRESSOR A WHILE TO FILL THAT TANK...

I was truly worried for a short moment there... Glad you're o.k. - well o.k. for you.
