OEM Tires

Wonder if someone knowledgeable about the OEM Tires can help me out here.
I want to order a complete set of Good Year OEM Tiresas a back-up, don't need them now, but would like to havethem when I do need them. I know right now, the OEM Tires are difficult to get. My dealer has an SSr he wants to sell and has had the tires on order for the last two months.
Where can I get the best price ordering them? Should I just go through my local chevy dealer or is there some place that I can order them at a lower price than what the dealer would charge?

That is unreal! I don't understand why GM would be so irresponsible to not have OEM Tires available for the SSr's that they sold to the public for 4 years!

I sent you a PM on this too Wayne...

Hi, Wayne...well I found out the hard way but I kinda for saw a circumstance like this coming. I'm just glad I had a backup set to run on. I encountered a flat toward the end of January and I needed a replacement for the rear tire since the tire shop I took it to couldn't fix it so the looked up the RS-A I was needing and told me after phoning Goodyear that there was no production history of them being produced again. So I asked him if there was any goodyear tires that are compatible with my set up and as it turns out Goodyear makes front and rears for our SSR's so they are calling them a different name Goodyear Eagle HP Plus 106Y-Rated so far I purchased only a rear set to have on hand since I wanted symmetrical tread wear. This particular tire is better than the standard RS-A in both speed rating and puncture resistant.

Part#189-120-199

Hope this helps let me know how you make out on these I believe there should be plenty in supply.

-David

FYI: GM has little control over Goodyear and their production schedules especially for very low volume tires. I don't think blaming or calling GM irresponsible is going to get Goodyear to make our SSR tires any faster.

If you believe that GM can make Goodyear produce them any sooner, then I would highly recommend that you call 1-800-222-1020 and register a formal complaint with Chevrolet. Perhaps that might help move things along quicker.

IF GM started to use some other BRAND <GOODYEAR MIGHT CHANGE THEIR MIND> . Look at FORD , and FIRESTONE TIRES .

Goodyear

They're still to busy putting the fires out Tony Stewart started after the Atlanta race. Once Tony's happy they'll begin making our tires again.

This is great info. Why in the heck aren't all the Goodyear and GM service writers aware of this new tire?

I went to the Goodyear website and they recommend these when you search for SSR tires. They look good to me and I have a retail dealer right down the road from me. Wish I knew this when I was stuck in Brunswick, Ga but it appears that none of the tire dealers down there did, either.

GM uses many other brand tires, Michelin, BFGoodrich, Uniroyal, Firestone, General, Bridgestone etc.

Perhaps if they threatened to stop buying from Goodyear all together maybe that would work.

Hmmmm...I did the same thing and got to our OEM tires only. In order for me to find them I had to search via Eagle HP

Just did a search on tires.com and found that Goodyear now makes a run flat for the rear. I know they didn't make it for the SSR. What other vehicle uses the 295/40 - 20's?

Ok...this is my research:
The GY Eagle HP Plus tire only comes in the REAR size and is NOT rated for snow like the RSA is.

Wayneman,

When they were in stock I got my tires from tirerack.com and they usually had the best (or close to it) price including shipping.

Here is an email from GY:
The 255/45/19 tires now have an estimated production date of April 28,2008. No estimate for the 295/40/20 size.

Run a search above on Toyo - you'll find a bunch of good info. I love mine. Much better traction and a little cheaper.

Perhaps GM and Goodyear collaborated on discontinuing the OEM tires because the accident statistics were alarming.
