Running Hot

My 05 6 speed has recently started running around 230 degrees or the 3/4 line on the temp gauge. I took it to my local dealership and they replaced the fan unit. After driving it in the city it still goes up to that temp before the aux fans kick in. The mechanic said that the truck should run around 230 degrees. I thnk that is way to hot. Has anybody had this problem and if so how was it resolved.

Thanks
Steve Reed

Welcome to the Family, Steve. This is a quote from a thread recently started.
"temperature-gauge-go-up" started by Cabrioman and the response from 'Mike".
Chances are that you are OK and operating "normally", which is NOT what you are accustomed to, and that is making you uneasy. Mike has plug and play solutions which will give you the confidence you are used to. I have installed his products, ...twice.
Everything I do, I have to do 2X, as I am a 2 SSR family.

Cabrioman -

Your system may be operating normally. If the air conditioning is off, the main fan goes onto low speed at 226 and then off at 219. If the temperature continues to rise, the main fan shifts from low to high at 235 and then back to low speed at 226. This would account for your temperature excursions.

My Auxiliary Fan Kit is designed to independently turn on at 210. This usually stops the temperature variations before they get started.
The system also turns on any time the computer tells the main fan to turn on. This will assist the air conditioning system.
The Auxiliary Fan Kit also will turn on without the engine running. This pushes some of the heat out of the engine compartment and has additional benefits.

You can go to my web site and read the instructions in the "Downloads" section for all the details of the system operation, including the schematics.

Regards,

Mike

One other thing to check for is that the lower air dam is there, it will over heat if it's missing

Good thought, Bill. Might have lost it pulling away form a curb or one of those parking lot coffins.
