My SSR: 2005 Slingshot Yellow #20073 Born 1/24/2005
The search is over!!!! Our 2005 Slingshot Yellow is home!
Yesterday my wife and I found the "right" SSR for us. I had been looking for several months, looked at several nice SSRs and met great folks from this forum throughout the process. We looked at 03s to 06s and all the option packages for each. 6 Sp? automatic? Wood, no wood? Should we pick ?
We found our 05 Slingshot 6 sp with 7k miles in Daytona on Thursday night, called 8 am Friday morning and put down some $$$, drove to Dayton 10:00am Saturday morning, and arrived home with her the same day.
The SSR has: 6 sp, carpet bed/wood, painted running boards, gauge package, chrome wheels, wind scree, tow package, chrome exterior parts, and GMPP until Sept 2011.
The exterior is in great shape and the interior is spotless. Regardless. we spent this morning detailing and clay barring the SSR and she is FLAWLESS and display quality!
The SRR has an interesting option and/or add-on that I am hopeful the experts could help out with...
All of the exterior trim is CHROME including: Hood emblem, bow tie bar, fog light bezels, and exterior door pulls. Is it possible this was one of the chrome test vehicles or simply a series of add-ons? The truck is 100% stock which led to the question. The build sheet did not display any odd option package that could have been the chrome. I have inspected all of the mounting hardware and the bolts do not display signs of being "wrenched".
I recall a few weeks back some guy was forging and 04 as a "test car" for the chrome packages and there were comments form members leading towards the possibly of 05 test vehicles. I can email pictures and I'm hopeful to post them here as well.
The SSR will join our 2008 Z06 and 2003 Z06 garage queens.
Thanks to everyone on this forum for your kindness, knowledge, and help. I look forward to being a member of the community and the future fun.
My tip for the folks looking to purchase: Do your research, learn about the vehicle you are looking to purchase, and DO NOT procrastinate if you "find the right" SSR. You may find that it is purchased our from under you while you are deciding to buy. Pull the trigger or someone else will.
My SSR: Silver on Black Final Prod 6 speed #23387, Signature #23, Signature #12
Congrats on the new purchase.
Love driving a 6 speed. My guess on the chrome is that someone purchased the exterior parts. Surprising that he would do so, then trade it in. The chrome sure does add to the looks.
If you follow the usual course on this SSR addiction, my crystal ball tells me a set of American Axle 4:10 gears is in your future. Easy install, huge improvement. Heck, you can pay for the gears and install with the money you saved on chrome.

Congratulations on your SSR.
I too would think that the chrome was added on.
Do you have any info on who the previous owner was? If so, maybe they'll tell you if the chrome was added on.

Exterior Chrome
There was an exterior chrome package that was available to order thru the parts dept. If memory serves me, it also included the SSR logo valve covers. Congrats on your SSR and enjoy the permagrin.
