Smoking the tires 2004 stock SSR

OK, I have had my fully stock SSR for about a month and I wanted to see if I could smoke the rear tires (burn out). I took the Traction Control off, reved it up with my foot on the brakes and than floored it as I took my foot off the brakes. Quick take off but no burn out?

I was taking with someone today and he told me he had a friend that used to have a stock 2003 SSR and it would light the rear tires up. What the deal? Should my stock SSR do a burnout? Maybe it needs a tune up?

I know this is foolish but I would like to know my SSR is running the way it should. What can I do for little money to help?

Thanks, JC in GA

Smile Now that's ODD

The same thing happened to me. Since then I have done the following:
Flowmaster cat back exhaust
Corvette servo in the Transmission from Greg Ducato
2002 Z06 Cam with comp cams valve springs and comp cams timing chain (double roller of course)
456 Gears with redline gear lube
K&N air filter
Custom computer tune by PCM 4 Less, Brian Herter

FINALLY: Lots and lots of reading on this web site. You'll find tried and true techniques on what works and what does not. Make no doubt about it, this group of Fanatics know what their doing and can PROVE it!
They're all mad I tell'ya

I now have a smoker, but most importantly this thing is becoming a MONSTER!
Next up in a year or 2.... Supercharger !!!

Safety Note: Be careful as this truck can get away from you quickly and recovery can be tricky.

Smoking Tires

I had the same problem with my 04. I bought a Diablo Predater Tuner and loaded the performance tune. With the traction control off I can now lite'm up.

One trick I've found with my '05 is to make sure the tank isn't full! It's amazing the difference between 12 gallons and 25 gallons over the rear tires makes!

Also, the way the posi is you'll probably have better luck breaking them free coming out of a sharp turn. Can be tricky. Be safe! Practice where you and others will be safe!

Burnout

And I thought I was the only one suffering from "Male Burnout Disfunction"

I just can't seem to "get there" and if I do it's over very quickly.

Thanks for posting this, now I don't feel like I'm "underperforming" anymore.

It's comforting to know there are other men with the same problem

A higher stall torque converter will put the punch in the bottom end of your SSR.

I know this first hand. After you purchase the fisrt set of tires in no time you do less burn outs.

Thumbs up Ask Devastator

Midnightrider made a great video showing some SSR rear wheels spinning.... driver was Chris "Devastator" who owns an 04 SSR.

An 05 "R" with the 6.0 motor and sometimes a "chirp"with the TC off and power braking -
its a very heavy truck and without a performance "tune"(Predator, etc)its not going to happen on a regular basis. Maybe im just as well off 'cause the tires will last longer! lol

burn outs

I have done these mods, so far seeing how I'm keeping the R more to come as I can afford them..

PCM4LESS performance tune.
C6 Corvette Throttle body polished & ported.
K & N Air box
Corvette servo by Greg.
456 gears.
Duel exhaust straight pipes '' No Mufflers " with 3" x-pipe and 5" tips..
Lowered with Eibach springs

And flames by Lonnie which I feel gave me 2.5 more pony's under the hood.

Does burn outs and keeps spinning even when it hits second gear and leaves a patch of rubber. One bad thing if your making a turn and shifts into second the a$$ end wants to come around. A tune and gears will give you the best punch for your buck I feel anyway. Unless you drop a SC in it. Hope this helps out.

So guys, I think JC in GA could use some approximate numbers with your ideas.
Also I'll try to find a thread of Jim G's regarding low cost power boosts and value for dollar.

Some have mentioned the K&N. Thats been around on ebay for $465 unles you find one privately somehow. There are varying opinions on power boost/dollars expended. I have no opinion as I don't have that.
4.56 gears. About $6-800??
Vette Servo from Greg Ducato about $50.
MAF screen removal increasing air flow costs $0. Mind you, does the '04 have that? I forget.
The PCM4Less- About $250???

When I first got my 03 she lit up well. We (us canucks) called that a break stand. No problem. Maybe you should let off the brake a little and then put it back on a little. Works for me. Usually the front brakes grab first.? I still gotta do one with my 06 on a stick.

Found what I was looking for. This is from Jim Gnitechi who has written a book on SSR's that can be purchased in download format also. Believe it is called "The SSR Experience". I do not have it but have seen many favorable comments.

Exactly the best bang for your buck and some thing you will feel right off the bat is, gears and a tune. It will be like night n day when you drive it.
