Ah, pardon me a minute while I drag my soap box over here...scrape, scrape... there.
Ahem, ladies and gentlemen, I see a number of SSRs come up for sale where the Fanatic is not fanaticical. They say they are selling because they have two or more other vehicles they drive all the time and just don't drive the SSR enough. They say it's hard to justify the expense of something they rarely use. The other common reason being, it's a shame to have the SSR gathering dust.
I have a solution for these people... Use it for what it was intended, drive the damn thing.
Now before you get all defensive, if the SSR is your hobby, your show car, and you want a garage queen for occasional drives, fine and dandy... that's your choice, nothing wrong with that. But when you get to the point where that doesn't blow your skirt up any more, and your losing interest in just being a collector, don't sell it, drive it.
It doesn't make sense to me to sell your SSR, that frankly you aren't going to get a pile of money for, and keep that cookie cutter sedan you could probably sell easier and for more. Why on earth would you drive that cookie cutter when you could be driving the funnest vehicle on the planet?
But the SSR only holds two people.
Look around folks, how many vehicles around you every day only have one person aboard. How about most of them.
But sometimes I take the grandkids.
Well then take one of the cookie cutters you own, you don't want the urchins messing up your upholstery anyway.
But the paint will get chipped and stuff will wear out.
Then you replace the stuff that wears out and get it painted... duh
I'm just saying if you sell it when you don't have to, you're cheating yourself. When the time comes, I'll bet you won't tell St Peter you wish you had driven your SSR less.
Thank you for your attention, keep calm and drive on.

I'm thrash'n right now to get on the road to Flagstaff by tonight. You bet I have 50,000 miles on it sence I took ownership from Chase Chevrolet with 20,000 miles on it as it sat on their lot. I tell my sons that they will get this rig when I die and it will have miles on it and more then likely be in need of rebuilding if I haven't rebuilt it yet...... When I'm in my 80's
I didn't buy it to look at, nor did I buy on the hopes that it will be a collector's item some day. I bought it to roll on down the interstate and take me on my various travels when driving is required. I got to go my friend..... I have a 10 hour drive a head of me and I'm still bolting on parts I'll take my lap top with me and post from the Hotel
But when you get to the point where that doesn't blow your skirt up any more, and your losing interest in just being a collector, don't sell it, drive it.
Good thread...well said. However when magic is gone....that's it.
I hope to re-kindle the interest but until then the For Sale Sign is ON.
My wife could care less about it. If she were Fanatical I'd drive the s h i t out of it and go to a lot of SSR events. If I had a 3 car garage I'd let it sit and enjoy the pride of ownership having fun, driving, showing, dusting it off. IF IF IF.
Until I renew the love of the my SSR....... Anyone wanna buy a real nice looking SSR??? Baddest ride I ever owned. A beauty never to be repeated. A once in a lifetime design. The friendships I made with it are priceless. I offer it for sale....but do not feel great about it. A Time for this...A time for that.

Dont drive mine much due to the fact when its driving season I'm working all the time. '06 with 15,000 miles.
But I will always love my R and have no intentions to sell. Not saying I wont ever sell it, sometimes you have no choice in these matters. I have made some great friendships though this site that is well worth what I paid for it (sticker price BTW).
This vehicle and this site have really touched my life in no way that I could ever have imagined. LOVE my SSR family. When my first R was stolen the people on here understood and really cared about what had happened to me. (It was stolen while I was at my fathers funeral). That was priceless. So (ironically) coming from me "Drive it like you stole it"!!!!!!!
Well the magic is gone because you've tired of just having a trophy you can't bring yourself to drive.
You mentioned in another thread you can't take it anywhere it's going to be out of your sight, and certainly not park it in a parking lot while you attend some function, or do some shopping.
I've got stone chips, but it'll still pass the 20-20 test. And with a little thought, I've avoided any door dings while parked it in dozens of parking lots and garages.
If you take it out for a drive, that's it, drive. Maybe that balky clutch takes the fun out of that too. I can see how that would get old after awhile, so I guess your only alternative is to sell it and drive a regular car. I think it's a shame to miss out on so much fun, but you have to do what your comfortable with. Hopefully the next owner will be able to have fun with it.

Hubby drives ours daily to work and we often take it on the weekend to the golf courses we play. BUT - it's going into winter storage soon and will sit unused and undriven - unless some weather miracle happens. We bought a 3rd car - a used Ford Freestyle AWD to do the winter slugfest. Ugh
Hopefully the next owner will be able to have fun with it.
This tread.... Your thoughts, your comments are right on the money. Everyone should enjoy their R.
The next owner will love my R. I took real good care of it. I have my reasons for doing what I do with my rides. I have my reasons for selling the 2 tone. I'm asking a good dollar for it. I'm not in a hurry to part with it. The 6 speed never gets old. The Magnaflow is music.
Thanks, Man. I don't want to appear to be singling you out, I just addressed your case because you joined in the thread and I know a little background from your previous posts. I also know you've lavished enough care on that truck to make it perfect.
I started this because of the reasons I see in the 'for sale' thread. Some people seem not to be able to get their head around the fact that this is a motor vehicle, which gives them another option.

My SSR: 2004 Ultra Violet completely stock ... for now !!
Well speaking as a collector, I have 6 including the R, and there are 3 of us in the house, for those that do not know, Tracie's mom lives with us, and like to go out in the cars with us on our evenings out .... bless her 84 year old heart !!! but we drive the R as often as we can, but as it is a 2 seater, it can be a month or 2 between drives, and with our VERY short summers here, we LOVE every minute in the R !!
So we do take her on road trips when it's just Tracie and I. Now I have no plans on selling the R ... infact, when we get our place in So. Cal ... there will be another R in that garage !!!!
Rob & Tracie
live in fla, just got back from visiting my sons in nh. logged 5800 miles, plus i drive it every day, x wife got the caddy...... drive em like you stole it.
