One 16" rim Trailblazer spare tire with spacer mounted under the frame. It has to be inflated, but will work on front or rear.

I started a tread under the technical section asking about trailblazer wheels and was told 16 inch would not work becaus of brake clearance problems.

true ,i had a blow out and the dealer tried different wheels from other trucks and none fit because of the size of the front brakes.maybe the trailblazer SS has the same front set up we have and their spare will work.

You have to use a wheel spacer(big shim) to move the tire out from the brakes. Even after that the wheel will slightly graze the cooling fins on the front disk brakes. I took off a little with a grinder and the tire fits just fine. No problems on the rear.

Actually the spacer makes the tire look better because it extends it out a little to about the same width as the stock tire. I used the 16" tire because when de-flated I was able to mount it under the rear. Full size spare, just no air.

replaced my front tires yesterday and kept one of them to mount on a painted oem rim I'm getting off ebay. Spare will be available this week if needed as a loaner. I'm using only a front 19" as I'm sure it would work on the back as well.

spare tire

I would be interested in buying a smaller spare wheel and tire to carry around in the trunk. 17" trailblazer wheel with P245/60R17 tires ( from reading other threads). Anyone who can get this for us fanatics at a volume price? or bring to Laughlin run and sell it to us... I'll certainly buy one. I am really not wanting to spend a lot drill a hole behind the plate and mount the spare under the cargo at this time.

You know a stock front wheel and tire turned upside down in the bed has a nice hole in the backside for storage. I believe it's better than a 17" rim becuse that 17" takes about as much room but has a different backspace-not as deep a hole for upside down storage. Besides you have to buy something-might as well be a direct match for the front that will also work as a spare for the rear. I got my extra 19" oem rim off ebay and used one of my left over front tires when replaced.

Tire Idea

Was wondering if this idea might work. As folks replace their tires they will have 2 fronts and 2 rears that would probably still be serviceable in a pinch. If there were a network of people that would be willing to store 1 front and 1 rear in various parts of the country, then they would be available to fanatics in an emergency. A list would have to be maintained here on the forum as to who has them and where located. I would be willing to store a front and rear in my upstate NY home.

there is a list already. I'm on it! Now if I could just direct you to the right thread you could add your name to it. Have to search I guess! Found it- check "spare tires and wheel".
