My SSR: 05 Slingshot Auto # 20087 Brickyard Track Vehicle
SSR Downunder
Well here are some of the long awaited pics. Apparently there are NINE SSR's in Australia and the guys at MCI that did the conversion have done six of them.
Smokin' Ashpalt owners need to steel themselves for some of the pics to follow. It is an 06 in the middle of surgery. Joe at MCI has an 03 Redline for sale so took the only opportunity we would have to have pics of our Slinghsot with another SSR.
Hope you enjoy.
There is basically only a shell and lots of internal wiring laying about so you can see how big a job it is to convert. They have to move the motor over 75mm so it is in the centre of the car now then tow it to the exhaust people to have custom headers made and they make a whole new firewall.
More to come.

We think we did very well considering we bought on the internet with only three photos to look at. The guys at MCI said it was the nicest SSR they had seen so far.

Fantastic pictures, Vavoom . . .
Definitely makes me want to take another trip to "Downunder" real soon. Great country with even GREATER PEOPLE.
By the way, are you required to convert a vehicle to right-hand drive in order to be legal? I kinda remember seeing left-handers when I was there the last time.

! ! ! ! ! !
Apparently if a vehicle is more than 30 years old it DOES Not need to be converted. Seems a bit strange to me but maybe they class them as CLASSICS or something. Anything younger than that needs to be converted and comply with Australian Standards. Hence, we needed new tires, windscreen, fog lamps, front indicators and rear indicators as well as all new fluids in the car (just to name a few things).
On our SSR this added AUS$38,500 to the cost of our car but can see where the guys earned their money - they almost had to rebuild the whole thing.
You can't get it registered if it has not been converted. They also have a CLUB registration available for older vehicles that are l/hand drive but they can only be driven under a lot of restrictions.
My SSR: '05 Concept Truck, powered by Heavy Duty rubberbands, and a really BIG WINDUP KEY!
What?!?!??!!? IS that it?!?!?!??!??
MAN, and I thought I went through a lot with mine. At least now when i finally make it to Australia, I will have an SSR to drive. I mean you are going to let people from out of town drive it to feel at home, aren't you?
:Thumbs
