Question SSR Owner Loyalty Program?

This was something I posted on another thread, but I decided to make it a thread instead.
What do the rest of you think?

The SSR will be like the Cadillac Allante built from 1987-1993. Cadillac waited until it's last year to put the "Northstar" engine in the car, and offer more colors.
Those $60,000.00 cars tanked pretty quickly, but the 1993 has hovered around the $25,000.00 range for the past 12 years or so.
Chevrolet needs to do something in the way of owner loyalty, the way Cadillac did back in 1990, or 91. I was working at Roger Meier Cadillac in Dallas, and we sold more Allante's than anyone in the world.
I can't remember exactly what it was, but sales were slow, and Cadillac offered current Allante owners a chance to get into a new one for as little as $4,000.00.
It was just CRAZY, and when we called people they couldn't believe it, until they drove off the lot in their new cars!
The trade ins sold for a LOT less than Cadillac gave for them, but they paid the money anyway.
Cadillac wanted to keep the Allante alive, and show good sales numbers to raise the "prestige" of the rest of the line.
"HINT HINT" Maybe Chevrolet should make some kind of an offer for 03 and 04 SSR owners to "step up" into a 2005? They can keep the plants open, and keep cranking them out, and keep people working.
Anyone out there from Chevrolet listening?.............................................
..................................................................................(Crikets chirping).

All Vehicles Evolve...

Sam,
I think all vehicles as time goes on evolve. Just think as a 2003 owner
compared to me a 2005 owner you have the opportunity to drive this fun vehicle years before I did. I think Chevy is going the right direction as time goes on but thats the business,bigger/faster/lighter/etc.
Another terd that was brought back to the surface was the 2004 GTO. I was
in Detroit for the big show and they out this car I was floored to see what they had done AND now the 2005 has the faster LS2 motor and some body changes.
I guess one could sit on the fence forever waiting to buy that perfect car but
if you make the move you can have the fun now. Dont forget if you want the 2005
power there,s always a supercharger to add on!
Good luck in what ever direction you go.............BillyRay

Won't give it up

I have the 1st UV off the production line, and as a discontinued color I'd take a beating (physicallly) rather than give it up to move up. Won't happen with P/P

Peace

I think that Chevy has to rethink this Halo vehicle thing.

A Halo vehicle is one designed and marketed to promote sales of other vehicles within a marque.

So were does the SSR fit in this marque, truck, sport truck, car? I don't think I have ever heard them say?

If they are keeping the SSR as the Halo vehicle, were is the advertising? Sure you see the SSR in adds, for how long, maybe 2 seconds, don't blink?

I see more adds for that wimpy Cobalt than I have for any other Chevy. I can hum that damn tune in my sleep!

Options, sure the SSR is an eye grabber, but it needs the balls to back it up. LS1, LS2, fine, you had better look at more than just HP, at 4760 lbs it's like driving an 18 wheeler with a gocart engine.

What happened to engine options? I know Chevy knows what a supercharger is, HAH, it's going on the Cobalt. It was also put on the Monte Carlo and a few others. Let's not forget Turbo's, not one, TWO!

So we now have our new 07 SSR LS2 with 3 engine options, standard, supercharged or turboed.

Havn't even got to the inside yet, ONstar, all in one stereo(XM, MP3, CD/DVD, AM/FM, vehicle monitering, EQ) heads-up dash, gated shifter.

That's HALO!

When Chevy has this available, I'll look at up-trading.

Yes it's a speciality vehicle & I don't plan on trading mine anytime soon.

Loyalty Offers for us to trade in our used SSRs? What am I missing here? My 2004 SSR is just fine and no one out there knows if it's thirty years old or brand new, except another SSR owner. If the factory closes, so be it, I did my part and still promote sales everytime I answer questions from everyone. Love the SSR, but present owners have already done their part for General Motors and I'll stick with my Smokin Asphalt.

Great Idea!

I think that is a great idea! I find it innovative! I think that for the people who have 03's I understand why they would not want to trade. Also if you are in love/satisfied with your existing model I understand why you wouldn't want to give it up. However, if you love gadgets, and they keep upgrading the ammenities I could see trading for a new one. Don't get me wrong I still love my 04 and am presently very satisfied, but since it would be the same vehicle, in a sense it is all the same to me.

Don't tell me that if someone from your local Chevy dealership called you up and said, for $4,000.00 you can trade for a brand new 2005 SSR in your color choice, you wouldn't RUN down the street keys in hand!

No Way!

I wouldn't. I have no desire to have the 6 litre or the 6 speed standard. Very happy with my '03, the mods I have made and being able to fill up with regular unleaded. I'm past the racing stage and I'm now in cruisin' mode and lovin' it.

Sam, I always liked the Allante. Here in Michigan you hardly ever see one on the road anymore. Must be they all went south? Back then GM had at least 4 different brands that were 2-seaters. Can you name them? Corvette is the only one of the three still made ofcourse.

Oh Please......

I've worked in a Chevrolet dealer for 14 years. (Only two dealers). It has nothing to do with halo vehicles or quality, or whatever. GM is in serious trouble and its not because of the vehicles we sell. Its because of the mentality of General Motors. This company is so button down collar that it steams me at times. No body within the organization wants to think outside the box. We have great vehicles, (even with minor quality control issues), that do not take second place to a lot of vehicles. But we could do more without pricing our vehicles in the same catagory as BMW or MB. Look at the new Z06. We're being told this is a $70-75,000.00 vehicle, yet I have people standing in line with $5,000.00 deposits to get one. And I can't get enough when they come out. What hurts is we advertise vehicles for 6 months before the vehicles are introduced to the public. By the time the customers see the real vehicle, their on to something else. But nooooo..., this doesn't stop our competition from beating us to the front....(pant,pant,pant)....
There, I got it out, feel so much better.
Mike

Sam, it's not a money issue. I am totally pleased with what I have. From the responses after your post you can see I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I have some things I want to do which leave my fingerprints on this vehicle. Right now nothing is as important as that.

If someone came along and wanted to trade me even, what I have for a new one, I wouldn't do it. I'm just not interested. For me money is not the driving force. I can understand that many would, and it would be great for them. I just hear a different drummer.

P/P

Peace

Yep, your correct. I should of said 4 models. Remember the last year of the Fiero?
It came in a GT model and the best looking I thought. The Reatta was built at the Lansing Craft Center. The same building as our SSR's.

Watch six you hit the nail on the head. I've been a Gen Mgr of a Chevrolet Dealership for 20 years and we have the worst marketing team in the world, with the worst production schedulers also. They always use a vehicle that we can't get in the advertisements, and will not get production up on what is selling the best. IE every Cobalt comercial is af the SS, low production- I have sold 4 times more Equinox's than I have gotten from Chevrolet bought the rest from other dealers. We cant get the Duramax's we need but Ford and Dodge will have a lot full of diesels when a customer steps on thier lot. They can make my Blood Boil!

Still Having Fun !

I have been a Gen MGR in this GM dealership for 35 years and 5 years at a previous dealership and have to say GM is not without problems but do not think Chrysler and Ford have all the answers and no problems , I have have had ample opportunities to work for the opposition, but still am very happy to be in a GM franchise.

Since quite a few of us SSR owners are GM connected. What are some of the other issues that could be better to help shore up GM's market share that you Sales Managers see every day?
