It means that I only post pins for people who comply with the instructions, in the announcement, at the top of this thread. Those instructions have been edited a couple of times since first being posted.
Only requests sent to gkbeer@gmail.com will be honored.

If any have sent a PM, or made a request via a post in SSRFanatic, it's been ignored.
1. My PM mail box is to small to handle the volume.
2. I don't seem to have enough time to read everything since starting this.
3. It lets me keep track of which requests have been cared for, and to quickly ask for clarifications.

I have Fuzzy's info EXCEPT that it DOES NOT include the map location (Latitude and Longitude) for the pin. I need that, and it's counterproductive for me to find that bit of info.

I cannot take it for granted that everyone in Fuzzy's list desires to be located on the pinmap or that they want all of Fuzzy's data on the map. If it is clear to me that the requestor is one of the FBoMF "Fuzzy's Band o' Merry Fellows" I'll inticate that.

hotrodgirl (Fanatic, FBoMF)

And finally, Yes you need to send an email.

Buffy, I like the way you copied and filled all this in. But as I've been reminding all comers. It needs to be sent as an email to gkbeer@gmail.com. I use the read status of the pinmap emails to keep track of what requests have or have not been fulfilled. I can't do that with the forums.

PS. I guess you haven't seen the PM I sent earlier this morning.

Post Keyboard shortcuts work now.

The map should now respond to the cursor keys. Up,dn,rt,lft all should cause the map to scroll. The +/- keys should cause zoom in and out.

1) You may need to click on the map to set the keyboard focus to the map. I.E. if the keyboard shorcuts don't work click on the map.

2) If you haven't, you may need to refresh the map.

3) Last, you may need to clear the browser's cache as well.

Basically, I didn't know I had to explicitly enable the shortcuts.

Colored Icons

I've cracked how to get custom icons to work.

The map has been updated to show colored dots in place of the standard pins. Colors follow those specified when each owner requested a pin. All others have been set to white. I still need to create an Aqua icon, it's just that I'm not quite sure what that color is.

Glenn,

Could you also change my pin color from white to Purple. Have waited because I didn't know if you were done with all the inputs or not.

You've done a sterling job creating this board for us.

I still see many familiar posters missing on the map....ie wildcat66, PCBeach, DIGITAL, 1HOT12C, TAHOEJOE, AND ddprice. Come out of your foxholes and give us your position.

P/P

Peace

I did give mine, but it is a few houses off from the real location. It was there the other day when I looked.

Had an error in the coding. Caused white pins to go missing. Fixed now. Also updated all the colored dots to have highlights.

New requests have died off to 1-2 a day. I suspect most everybody that knows about the map and desires a pin has been placed.

Looking real good Glenn

Two questions.

What does the FBoMF mean after my name? Saw it on some others too.

Page takes forever to load. When you first started it popped right up. Is all the adding of info slowing it down?

Some of it may be the new colored icons. I'm not quite sure where the icon images are served from. I suspect they are coming to you from comcast instead of google. That is one factor.

Also I recently doubled the number of pins in an attempt to make the pins show properly when the map is zoomed to a world view. When the date line shows and it is just a bit too far right, all the pins disappear. They arn't gone, just off the page to the right on the next panel of the map. I'm still looking for alternate (faster) solutions.

If the map is zoomed out far enough you see multiple panels, divided at the dateline. By defualt, Google only puts markers on one panel, the one that holds the center of the map window. When the date line scrolls past the middle of the window all the markers jump to that panel.

If any wish to see what the map looks like without the doubleing of pins look at
http://home.comcast.net/~gkbeer/ssr/pinmap/index2.htm

In that version of the map scroll the US over to the far right side and back.

I've been reworking the map's javascript. It should load all at once now. But I'm seeing some other problems.Hybrid mode on IE seems to be broken.
In IE 6.0, once the map is loaded a refresh is extra slow, while clicking on a favorite to reload is fast.

Ok, it's not my code. I've found out that Google is in the process of updating "how things work". IE is failing to render the various layers of the map correctly in Hybrid mode. The state lines and such are there, just under the opaque satellite image tiles.

My recommendation, Get Firefox

Red face

I've been busy.

More success's and problems.

I've been able to add a sidebar. clicking on the fanatic name will cause the tag for the pin to pop up and scroll if the pin is out of view.

It works great in firefox. When I bring it up in IE6.0 it takes severel minuets to appear. The browser seems locked up during that time. Once it completes, every thing is fine.

To be honest, I cribbed the side bar from an example, by a chap named Mike who is located in the UK.

Does everybody using IE see the map as it is shown on the right.

Pic below compares the map seen in Firefox (lft) vs. IE (rt).

In IE there is no text across bottom.

Looks like the missing footer info was a temporary glitch.

Did anyone notice that the roads and political divisions are incomplete on IE?

On IE I see that at certain zoom levels that roads and boundaries are missing on the hybrid mode. Going to just map and they all appear, but going back to hybrid they disappear again.

Not sure if this is IE or google problem, but often you will see the "sorry no image for this zoom level for this region", but by moving or zooming out and back in you will find that there is indeed an image it just wasn't found the first time.
