Mo Beer!!!
Just looked up my PIN and found ... to my surprise ... that there are 3 other SSR'ers real close by my little abode by the Mississippi. Maybe we can get together sometime this summer and lie about how fast we've had our trucks up to!
Beer as Pinhead of the Year?? Nah, how about Beer for President??
I'd much rather have a good Beer in the White House than a Pinhead!
Whoops, too political.
Anyway, Great Job on the pin map - it's a lot of fun checking to see where some of the SSR'ers postings are coming from.

Have just gmailed you our co-ordinates for Downunder. Hope it comes through okay. Couldn't get as close as you guys seeme to be able to. Couldn't even pick up our street - but could see the golf course and the river. Hope it comes up okay.

Mark, Or is it Fiona,
I've just finished an upgrade of the pinmap. It now uses google's version 2 of the mapping software. The imaging goes to finer levels in more areas. I believe you should be able to clearly pick out your house now.

We have a bunch of new people on here now, so I thought I would bump this thread. You all can read it and put a link up of where you are. You might be suprised how many of us have done so, and how many have not. Right now there are only 315 pins, but perhaps we can talk some more of you into filling this out.
Tried to send off of map and wouldn't send email when I wouldn't put email
address and personal phone number in request form.
Robert Salerno
Bob,
I'm now in the process of redoing the request page. When it is done it should allow an address to be entered and a lat/long be reported.
For now, read the instruction page, input the form data, then instead of hitting the submit button, do a copy past from the web page into your email client and send it to me at gkbeer@gmail.com

Hey Glenn,
I have a version of this map up and running as an integrated part of one of my other sites. It would be cool if we could integrate this more closely with the forum.
Members can add and edit their own entries as well so it would take a load of work off of you. There is also a spot under each user's name that says Map Me. It will take you to their pin on the map. There is also a link to the Member Map from the menu throughout the forum. The username and password to login and change your pin are the same as the one that you use for the forum.
What do you think? Do you want to look at options or should we just stick with this one?
Hey Glenn, clipppp What do you think? Do you want to look at options or should we just stick with this one?
I like the way it's integrated into vbulletin. Very slick. Enhancments will most likely be slow in coming. (hope I'm wrong about that) In it's current form, it's advantages outweigh the things I like about my pin map.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Look at options" But unless you think there is something worth exploring, I'd say put in the vbullethin map.
All of the info for my map is in an excel spreadsheet - flat file format. If having that info will help, let me know.
VB Map Enhancements I'd ask for:
#1 - The popups that come from hovering over a pin are annoying. Clicking on a pin should be adequate. This is one of those if nothing else is fixed kind of enhancments.
#2 - A way for the admin to choose what pin colors are offered to the members. I.E. Paint colors. The current solstice map pin colors being tied to forum status (and I'm sure nobody meant it that way) is well... a form of elitism.
#3 - Exploring the VB map. The VB map page needs to have a names sidebar or some way to search for pins without having to jump to some other page. Being able to get to the VB map from the map me link or from the member list helps but not if you are already looking at the map.
#4 - The current method of adding a pin is where I was hoping to go. But then I found out that Google was adding a geocode feature. I was testing that here. But hadn't completed the work yet. Something like that would be a good enhancemnt for the VB map.
Some Opinions (everybody has one :
- The initial view needs to be more global.
Signed up for pin on map couple days ago - how long does it take to be accepted?
I haven't been exactly diligent the last week. (There was a whole new slew of SF books released recently) Your message is in my in box and I'll take care of it tonight.
For all others, If your request dose not include a latitude and longitude, for placing the pin, it becomes a game of pin the tail on the donkey. I suck at that game!
