This is Larry and Nancy Rebenack, RAD-SSR, found my home on the map and submitted it. Will look later to see if it took.

Thank you for making this tool available, it will be a slick way to know where fellow SSR's reside.

Fanatic Pin Map

I'm ready to put pins in the map for any who wish.

Send your requests for pins to gkbeer@gmail.com.

Please do not send PM's requesting pins.
PM's requesting pins will be discarded without action.
I'm sorry that I have to do it this way but my PM mail box is limited in size.

I need at a minimum the following:

Your SSRfanatic Handle and the map location for the pin.

Finding your map location:
You can find the map location by going to the SSR Pinmap, zooming to where you can see the place where the pin should be put, DOUBLE CLICK at the exact location on the map. After the map moves, the numbers below the map represent your map location. Copy them into the email. For example, my info would be beer100 (37.8128353653635, -121.242660284042).
edit: I've added a link under the pinmap, after you have zoomed and double clicked, hit the link that reads "Request a pin". This will bring up a form with your location already copied in. Add whatever info you desire, scroll down and hit the submit button. This "should" cause your default email client to start and a new email to be generated. You can review and amend it as desired then send it. (note: your computer and the default email client must be properly configured for this to work.)

Additional Tips: When determining your map location, try the Hybrid mode and zoom all the way in before double clicking on the location where you wish your pin to be. This seems to yield the most accurate results. Remember the numbers will only be accurate just after the double click. For some areas, there is no imagary at max zoom under either the satellite or hybrid modes. Use map mode.

Alternate method for finding a Map Location:

Go to Geocoder.us and enter your address. Provide me the Latitude and Longitude that are returned.

So send your request to, with the following to gkbeer@gmail.com

Required items:
Fanatic Username:__________
Map Location (see above) __________,__________

The remainder is optional, provide it only if you would have it show on the map:
Name :__________________
street address :_______________
city, state/prov. zip country : __________________
phone 1 : _________ 1-123-555-1212 (work) or cell, day, night or whatever.
phone 2 : _________
phone 3 : _________
email 1 : _________
email 2 : _________
email 3 : _________
note : _________ < One or more lines.
SSR color :________

Edit: Email field are now email address' only & they are converted to mailto: links on the map.

PS: As I update the map there may be times when it gets broken. I won't leave it that way for long.

Edit: Revisions:
9-30-05 zoomed map to see whole world. Nobody (ME!) noticed that Topcat was banished to Mongolia for 2 days.

Edit: Internet Explorer users: If you are having problems loading the map. Slow, computer lockup... There is a setting that needs to be changed.

In IE goto: Tools>Internet Options>General Tab>Settings button>
Check for newer version of stored pages: check the radio button for AUTOMATICALLY.

I set that and my map retrieval went from minuets to seconds, 3 or 4.

The problem setting is when "Every visit to the page" is selected. This causes IE to check the server every time an icon image is drawn on the page.

My isp changed the ip number of my account. so this is the new address for the map on my private server. It may be up or down from time to time.

http:// 76.20.101.200/ssr/pinmap/ < The experimental map. << my isp changed my number

As before http://home.comcast.net/~gkbeer/ssr/pinmap/ this is the stable address.

After what hdflstf just went though, I feel it best if any members that have their home address posted here should remove it as it doesn’t take much for any visiting non member to put together a list of who going to such & such event, look up the address here and then plan a break in.
We all need to play it safe to protect ourselves, our family and our belongings.

Close, but not too close

My pin is in the middle of a middle-school athletic field 'near' my house.

You pin my not be exactly on your house, but if you have your address listed I think they can figure it out from that! That is why I didn't list my address, but all my phone numbers are there if anyone needs to contact me !

There are several online directories that allow reverse lookup. So if your home phone number is not an unlisted number, you might want to consider only listing your cell phone.

Everyone has different comfort levels where their personal security is concerned.

That's why all info is voluntary. I make no requirement that any info including the location of the pin be accurate.

I've noticed that since I upgraded the process where no email is needed, there have been some who have stepped up to have a pin on the map. In some ways that makes it a bit more difficult for me as I have no way to ask if they really wanted their pin in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

I'll give a statistics page some thought. Tallies by color or region are doable.

Basically the same way as when requesting a pin.

Use the form http://gkb.servehttp.com/ssr/pinmap/form/index.html and renter the info as you would have it, omit what you wish.
If you wish to move the pin, start here http://gkb.servehttp.com/ssr/pinmap/ssr_geocode_V2.html

In either case please indicate in the notes area that this is an update.

PS. an email to gkbeer@gmail.com works for removal.

Want to create your own Google map?

Google has just put a way for "regular" people to make "mashups" with their maps. This is what beer100 has done....but now you can make your own.

--------------------
"My Maps" offers a plethora of marker icons and colors to choose from and they are inserted onto the map by dragging and dropping. It's easy to include photos and videos. You cut and paste the URL from photos from Flickr or other Web sites and cut and paste the "embed" coding from videos on YouTube or Google Video. People can choose to make their maps private, and distribute the URL quietly to friends, or public, and the map will be included in Google's map search index. My Maps creations can also be viewed in Google Earth. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow you to grab photos or video from your hard drive yet, but Google Maps Product Manager Jessica Lee says that functionality is coming.

http://maps.google.com/ and select "my maps"

Hey Beer...

Could you put a disclaimer on your map that no BUSINESSES are allowed to use this information without prior written approval from you?

I received an email from someone trying to sell the Wind Screens (at $200 above what they are being offered for on here). I called this person and he said that he gathered the emails addresses from the map.

Thanks....
