Cool. Never heard of the remote hood before. I liked the main gauges and the steering wheel also.
Where you coming up with all this stuff Jay? Never mind, just keep'em coming!

I still haven't been able to make out the column shift in the video.
At first it looked like the small knob on the the side of the steering column was a 60's-70's style hazard flashers knob. But looking closer it seems that it might slide fore and aft to act as a shifter. Another thought was that the steering wheel buttons control PRNDL, upshift and downshift. Who knows on a concept vechicle. Fun to speculate until we get the answer from one of our GM insiders.

Great find Jay. I have seen this video several years ago. It sure was a great look back then. Even though the final interior was changed a lot from the original design I still like the final design.
I know there had been a lot of discussion whether to keep the rear cross bar or not. I sure liked it.....

You did yourself proud finding this gem, Jay. Never seen it before.
With the smaller S10 platform on the concept, the bench seat might have been a "quick install" with less interior space. my .02.

This video was the first good look I had of the SSR.
Was lucky to see and touch this Concept at the 2002 Syracuse nationals.
This is where I met, Tom a regional marketing manager for Chevy.
He drove the SSR from the trailer to the show floor...and his comment was "'It drove like a big old truck".
This SSR has the hydraulic hood but he said they would not open during the show because the
engine compartment was a cobbled "350" Olds?? motor and it was not pertty.
The wheels both front and back are a deep, five spoke style with a 5 bolt pattern.
The original roof was one piece clamshell...they did not operate it.
No compartment door, roof appeared to seal from below as it closed.
There were no wipers on this yet.
Front rear and inside billet aluminum bars were very nice.
Nice video I haven't seen this one before. I saw another with Ed you could hear the electric motor raising the hood real good oh yes and the rear cargo is electric lift too!
When you think of it, only forward and reverse are needed. Much like the Honda Insight Hybrid concept. Start it up with foot on brake. Won't start without the foot on the brake. Push button forward to go ahead and pull back into reverse motion. Watcha tink?? Solid logic?

Could be John. I'm sure we'll get the answer from those in the know sooner or later.
BYERS, here's that other interior picture I told you about--shows the guage cluster a bit better. The fit/finish on the steering wheel leather wrap leaves something to be desired.
