Hi I am a new member here.
I have a question.
I have 3 pretty cool toys already.
65 L79 Corvette Coupe
70 Nova SS 572c.i./TKO600
65 Pro Touring Mustang Fastback .
Well the wife has decided she wants a toy.
Her dad has a 05 with auto.
We drove it this past weekend and it is a very cool car.
She would like a 05/06 6 speed
However I have had the bug for a 03 or 04 yellow Z06 so I am trying to steer her in that direction
Either way I am excited about the prospect of having a late model fun ride.
FYI..Both our DD's are SUV's
Sell me on the SSR

I was gonna say you need both, but since you already have some 60s big block cars I'll say go for the SSR. My 2002 Z06 is a blast to drive, but it's basically a 60s BB with a lot of comfort features added. The SSR is a lot more comfy, gets WAY more attention, and you instantly have 1000s of really cool friends when you join this group.

My SSR: 06 Slingshot. With Flames and some go fast stuff..
Ssr Or Z06
Well have always had corvettes and still do. Traded in my 98 C5 for my 06 slingshot SSR. They are both very cool rides. But even though I will get a Z06 someday I ( WONT ) give up my SSR to do so.
The SSR is like nothing on the street anywhere, and if you look around while driving how many do you see. And like a little bit country and a little bit rock n roll, the SSR is a little bit corvette too. They don't ride like a typical truck, the top drops and no truck does that, I believe. You can do almost anything your pocket can afford to make it your own, just look at what so many owners have done to theirs. Its like a Harley on four wheels. ( THE SKY'S THE LIMIT )
And the most important thing I believe is the people from all over the USA, and other country's that belong to this site. I have meet so many kool and nice folks I would have never met have not owning my SSR. The road trips, rallies, weekend shows and get aways are some of the greatest values of the SSR. And if you ever need help these people come running. I had an operation while back and some SSR folks came and sat through the whole time with my mom, now that's freindship. Just some of my thoughts on this I'm sure others can add much more to this.
My typing isn't that great but some of my views. Hope this helps.

My SSR: 06 PAC Blue FPR auto no mods yet #24028 and loving it, 07 Avalanche, 03 HD crew cab, 87 short bed
I am in my mid 30's and have had over 70 vehicles, my first car was a 67 GTO which I still had and one of my favorite trucks was a 54 chevy 3100. As soon as I saw the SSR prototype, I knew someday I would have to have one. We got our 06 SSR about a month and a half ago and absolutly love it. Living in Las Vegas allows for more days with the top down than a lot of places, this thing is a blast to drive and wether you get a 5.3 or a 6.0 there are so mayy things you can do to make it yours and as fast as you want. When I started looking, I had my sights on a yellow Z06 and as soon as I saw the SSR in the Pacific Blue, my wife and I said that is what we need. I have a lot of future plans for mine and when the budget allows I want another one just because.
One last thought, living in Las Vegas I see Lamborgini's, Bently's, Rolls Royce Phantoms, Ferrarri's and cars like that every day and yea they are cool, it seems like you only see an SSR if you are lucky. They only made a little over 24,000 total.
Good luck in your decision, but since buying our SSR we have gotten more looks and inquirys than we did when my petite blonde wife would climb out of our lifted hummer that was her daily driver. I have truly learned the definition of the PREMAGRIN driving and meeting the other owner is a blast. As a new member of the Vegas Mob you wouldnt believe the freinds you will make.

The SSR is a one shot deal. They are special and will not be around forever. You can get a low mileage R now. If you wait the miles go up. Corvettes are totally awesome...but a dime a dozen. Nobody ever walked up to a Vette owner and asked them "What Is That"?
Sell you on the R? On my first post I asked people to give me reasons not to buy an R. Someone said I'm on the wrong Forum if I'm looking for reasons not to buy.
Events/fun/friends made from owning an R. Coolest Ride I ever owned. Made several friendships local & distant. Fun? Everyday and every time I get into my R...or talk about it or just go for a short cruise it's a JoyRide. The R should be called SSR HeadTurner.
Buy the R...you can always get a Vette. I started out shopping for a Vette. Bought the R instead two years ago. No regrets. Every day is like day one. The R never gets old.
you know you want one....start shopping and keep us posted Good Luck, Frank

That is a really hard choice! I love cruisin' in our supercharged SSR with the top down, but I also love my '04 Commemorative (Z16) Z06. However, since you already have a cool fleet of cars...I'd say go with the SSR!

Buy the R
Last year my Wife and I went to Chicago and stayed at the Penisula Hotel. We had to vallet the R. Here we are surrounded with the Bently's, Benz, RR you get the drift. Pulled up with the R and we where treated like royality. The head Vallet came out to take care of us. I told him about the R and to be carefull with it. He got on his white gloves and told me not to worry.
When we where ready to leave, the head Vallet ran off to get the R and bring it to the door for us. We talked for about 15 minutes and he had all sorts of questions about the R and he told me that was one of the coolest cars that he has driven. He drives about 10 Bently's a week and other big cars, but the R was the coolest.
Put a big smile on my face and as we pulled away, I let him hear how cool the R sounded.
As we drove down Michigan Avenue, for sure the R was turning heads. I doubt you would get that big of a response with a Vette.
To each there own, but the R is for sure was a good choice for me.

"I want another JUST BECAUSE" Was the same story I used , NOW I HAVE 3 and still looking for another "JUST BECAUSE"\
Hey Thanks for all the quick responses!
Are you guys working on commissions or what\
I belong to several "car" sites and the passion and friendliness here
is awesome and appreciated.
I am thinking that the SSR is certainly going to be more versatile than a ZO6.
The retractible hardtop is a nice feature. The storage capacity in the back (and the fact that whatever you put there is out of sight) is a big bonus.
And I would imagine as others have stated that the SSR is more comfortable vehicle to travel in. Thanks again for all the input
It's just my opinion. I have both SSR and Corvette. In MY opinion they are totaly different vehicles. The only thing they have in common is they are both made by Chevrolet and are both fun to drive.

Your on a SSR forum, were going to say SSR
Go to the Corvette , there going to say Corvette
WHAT DO YOU WANT ????????????
Good point...
And I realized this as I was posting my thread.
I also assumed that there would be a couple of members that owned both the Z06 and the SSR that might chime in with their experiences.
(This was indeed the case)
I was merely interested in hearing thoughts and opinions from individuals with first hand experience with the SSR. Hopefully with this information I can make a more informed decision..
Thanks again for all the responses!
I've had my SSR for almost 2 years now (hard to believe) and I am still in love with it!! I can honestly say I've never been in a Corvette before, but since I have my SSR, I'll be just fine if I never got to drive/ride in one. Talk it over with your wife, go with what's best for the two of you. The SSR is a real head turner, just like a Vette, but the SSR has a little bit more appeal to it since they're so rare!
My SSR: "Babe" '06 Pacific Blue/Chrome/6pd #22407, born 10/14/'05, and #21393, died 2/16/'07.
I have a Pacific Blue SSR 6-speed that is not for sale. My daughter is getting a new pink (custom paint) Corvette next year for her 21st birthday. Vettes are very nice...
But my 35,000 mile SSR is not for sale. It's my daily driver, from my many cars and trucks...
I guess my wife is the best example of what an SSR does to you. First, she has a great job and could drive any car she wants. So, she buys a Toyota Echo a couple years ago because it was "cute" and got 38 mpg. No power windows, no power locks, no intermitant wipers, no cruise, but did have to have a spoiler- go figure. Obviously not particularly a car person though over 37 years she's always tolerated and supported my drag and street hot rods. Since I bought the 05 R red 6 speed she can't get enough of it. We hardly ever plan where we're going, and the more lost we get the better we like it. She's usually cold before I am, but the top must be down for her. She now agrees with the down time, along the way, to get the bugs off the frontend and windshield. She also now excepts the need to polish the billit wheels. She flat out loves this silly car as much as I do! Everyone that owns one also becomes more aware of personal grooming because you will be looked at and you will meet new people.
