Things I've fixed...problems I've had.

A couple of people have PM'd in the past two weeks inquiring about what I've fixed on my SSR now that I am over 170,000 miles.

From what I can remember.
1) I'm on 4th set of tires. (getting ready to put on a 5th)
2) I've done about 20 oil changes (+/-).
3) 1 water pump.
4) 1 serpentine belt.
5) 5 sets of wiper blades.
6) 1 radiator fan
7) 1 right front wheel bearing
8) 1 rear suspension part (forget what it was exactly)
9) 1 HVAC fan (position 4 has quit now)
10) 1 new battery (may need a second one soon)
11) 1 door lock actuator
12) 1 set of brakes (getting ready to do rotors and a second set)
13) a light bulb in the steering wheel button needs replacing
14) 1 Tonneau hinge
15) 1 Transmission
16) 1 connector in the shifter.
17) Center console does not open any more.
18) I have a water leak inside the passenger side door which is affecting the speakers.
19) I did have a leak in the bed of the truck the first year. It was fixed by a field rep using goo...hasn't leaked since.
20) Replaced the rotors and put on second set of brake pads at 174k.

I am sure that there are a couple of other things, but that is all I can remember at this time. If you run across a post I made (or remember something I told you), that adds to this list let me know.

21) Radiator hose fell off shelf, got cut by pulley.
22) Starter
23) Throttle body

24) Replaced a wheel bearing for a third time.
25) As just upkeep, I replaced the spark plugs and wires (first time) and the fuel filter (second time).
26) Radiator

27) Replaced some actuator in the passenger door to allow it to lock and unlock again
28) Replaced the cabin fan AND resistor so that speed 4 works again. Had been told by dealer that they couldn't replace the resistor.
29) Replaced the catalytic converters with a set from Magnaflow. The last ones lasted 125,000 miles.
30) Cleaned the brake module, but it didn't fix the ABS/Brake warning light from intermittently coming on. UPDATE: the ABS/Brake warning light has stopped coming on).

31) After 214,000 miles, I had to replace the alternator. Thanks to those at Maggie Valley that made it possible.

Sounds like a long list, however it is really is not bad in that you drive it as much as you do. Then you have weather and salt issues. As for my which I have 11K on it, NO PROBLEMS so far. I have everything crossed just in case

Did you repair the door lock actuator yourself? My driver side actuator has gone bad (will lock but won't power unlock) and I need to replace it. But I've taken the door panel off and can't seem to figure out how I'd get my hands/tools in there to replace it.

I would have hoped after all this time you would have least changed your underwear and your socks at least once.

I just happen to know he did. Why, because one day he stated that he had over 150,000 miles and had not replaced his switch. Then stated, but now that I said that I will need to replace it tomorrow.

Dont remember if it was tomorrow but he had to replace it within a few weeks. Always remember and never forget to always Knock on wood. Hear that sound its me knocking on my head, lol

There was a day that I was thinking mine was acting up and that I would have to replace it, but I never did.....not even when I had the opportunity to have it done by our very own Wingrider....what was I thinking

I was one of those who asked you about what problems you have had with your SSR. I guess we all read the postings of different things going wrong and wonder if our SSR will be a lot of trouble down the road. It sounds like you have had great service from a high mileage SSR. I have only had my 04 SSR for about 6 months and have only put about 2000 miles on it. However, I am hoping to use it a lot more this year.

The only problem I have had is the one that came with the SSR when I bought it and was fixed under warranty and that was the seal was crimped on the top of the driver's side window and to fix it they had to replace the seal completely around the top (both windows and back are one piece). I have to watch the driver's side window and make sure it doesn't happen again. I think the window may need to be adjusted.

Thanks for the information.

Hey Wow, are you certain the door handles have never been done?! If not I'm absolutely in shock with the amount of usage yours have had. Possibly they were using something different in the early ones and changed the part, because the piece they used in my 05 didn't make 20K miles. Anyway congrats on 170K and going strong!

Like Topspin, I'm in shock about those door handles not being replace too. You must be going through the side windows.

I'm setting on 168,000 miles with the original door handls and ign. switch. My main problem was cooling fans, three while in warranty, then put Mikes on. No more problems.

There are people who have "trained" there rubber rather than replace it. I would research that here if you have trouble in the future - it would save you time and maybe money.

Fuzzy told me that the '03s used thicker pieces of plastic in the handles. I never tried to figure out when they switched to weaker pieces.

Thought I'd make a note here that I had new front tires, rotors and brakes put on last week and yesterday I had the rear tires put on and got an alignment.....only I didn't get an alignment because they said "Your truck is already aligned correctly."......... I guess this was a surprise to me because I had the truck aligned once...the day after I bought it 6 years ago and it has never been aligned since...at 175k miles and plenty of NJ pot holes one of which took out a tire. I am impressed
I have never had the issue of the insides of the front tires wearing like so many later SSRs had, so I always got 40k+ miles out of each set of tires.

Some good news.

only 42,000 miles and had both the covers for the pop-out coin tray and cup holder break off...and the other day one of the air vents on the dash broke. The interior is just not top quality.

While I tried to catch Wow I just could not do it and traded mine in at 151000 miles.Let see if I remember all the things I went through.
Picked it up from dealer at 17000k
3-fans and had a dealer disconnect Mikes fan because they said it burned out the OEM. Had to have Mike remake the connection dealer cut off.
Interior door handles

Dealer broke off chrevrolet piece off hood closing hood.

Right control arm after tow truck pulled my SSR from in front of house one night which lead to repairs and lawsuit.

Front upper control arms

3 front end alignments until one very good guy found another part of system damaged from tow truck pulling my ride

6 sets of tires

3 speedometers

one set of brakes at 134000 no rotors

transmisson at 113000 with 100000mile warranty of course

2 clutches and never enjoyed burning out tires once

drivers seat warmer burned my A s and had to be replaced

Lighted switches in steering wheel

Bezel around shifter because lights burned out-but when I sold it I put old one back on to trade it in and the darn thing worked again

Heater ac switches due to no lights in switches

Top went down one day and would not come back up and never could afford to go to dealer to get it fixed, I drove around for 3 months hearing door chime tell me roof was ajar and then one day just reached down and hit button (like I had never done that before) and it closed top, then it would open hatch but say it timed out and not open top

Ignition switch

Catalitic converters at 85000

And I had a quirk in system that sometimes I would turn car on and go to take off and it would act like it was overheated and when you stepped on gas it would not go. Had to shut engine off and let computer re-set itself then turn it backon and it was fine. This happened several times

Burned 1 qt. of oil every three thousand miles like clock work and engine did not really get worn in until I was over 100000 miles darn MObile one works good

Clutch master cyclinder

All that said I had a permagrin on everytime I drove it.

So if any of you folks see a Richochet Siler last 5 digits 19466 don't say I did not warn you as she went to auction here in SoCAl and no one knows where she will turn up next.

Did do that

This weekend I was racing up a mountain and the radiator hose fell off the shelf and got cut by a pulley.

I want to thank everyone that helped out getting it replaced and I was back on the road in under 2 hours !!!

Just had new radiator hoses put on today. (I will be sending the borrowed hose back to the lendee. thanks)

The lower hose was starting to stress crack, so it is good that I bought both hoses to replace.
