VIN's no longer on the road

XOXOXOBRUCE asked me to get these VIN numbers for some SSR's that are in a used parts lot in Washington State. I bought a spoiler from the guy, he asked me what I was putting it on and when I told him an SSR, he told me about this seven. Since my response was buried in another string, for those of you that keep track of these things I wanted to list them here again. Also, that guy on the site that just waxed a pole with his SSR could probably use some parts. The salesman told me most were not wrecked, they were damaged in shipment and he bought them from GM. His phone number if you need parts is 800-366-2070 X576. Real nice guy, easy to do business with. Based on the numbers, it looks like they are several different years.
Here they are:
1GCES14H05B116445
1GCES14H35B121297
1GCES14HX5B117778
1GCES14H45B118151
1GCES14P13B102798
1GCES14P14B110160

Good find Shadowman!! Wonder if he has put items up on ebay...if so what is his selling name.

A spoiler for the front or the back (bed cover or 'gate)

Thanks for sharing, Shadowman!

Great information in spite of the fact it represents 7 SSR's not being loved and receiving TLC!

Seven in one yard and we see others regularly leads one to think the 24,112 may be significantly less on the road today.
1. Do we have a means of keeping a registry of numbers/still on the road/how many salvaged/destroyed? (I will look at the VIN registry again but I think one would have to scroll through the whole lot to guestimate).
2. Does a US salvage title retain the VIN? (Think it does). I am not sure if we have salvage titles in Canada. Maybe Canada just refers to them as write-offs?
3. As an example, the rolling frame that was on eBay recently (still is I believe). If someone completely rods that or puts a different body type does that frame retain the VIN and does the sequential run of SSR VIN numbers then have a (i.e. Trailblazer) in there?

VIN's look like an '03, an '04 and 3(possibly 4) '05's. 21393 is actually BigBlue Ox's mishap, an '06.

I browsed Just VIN#'s Registry and "think" 18 ill fated SSR's are recorded. 6 of the above noted 7 are not in our registry. Given less than 1000 SSR's are registered within our registry (not including the 6 newly noted) on a percentage basis one might "assume" the fatality rate could be as high as 18/1000x24. That would be 432 casualties!. Tell me it ain't so Joe!

We were told at an Antique shop we stopped at on the way to Frankenmuth by a gentleman that stopped to talk to us. There was a train derailment with approx 200 SSR's on it.....they all went to a junk yard in KC.

Don't know if it's really true

I'm a little confused, HRG . . .

Why would an SSR be riding a train?

I don't know if he has any other parts on eBAY, but he does have these spoilers there. The spoiler is for the back. Look at the thread on SSR Fanatic under general discussion that say "which spoiler is this" that is an 05/06 GTO spoiler if you want to know what it looks like. He has 200 (no that's not a typo) 05/06 Pontiac GTO spoilers for sale. He told me they are new and of various colors but can't be advertised as such per GM. He said that were waiting to go on new GTO's when production stopped. I guess he bought the whole lot!!! I bought a black one for my SSR for $55 & shipping. He said he just sold a blue one to another SSR owner. I think they look very cool on the SSR, I like that sweeping forward curve.

...

The way I heard the train story was, one train car full ... (maybe 8 -12 to a carload?). This fellow also stated he knew of 200 hundred SSR's in several yards. But the first yard this fellow sent us to up the road, had ZERO on hand. .

Big Jim has a more complete VIN list, and I have more numbers from other sorces, but we both run into people who do not want to advertise there numbers to the public.

I try not to add VIN# unless the owner posts on the thread themselves.

Can't have more than 1/2 dozen, can you. If I was there, I'd check them all out, because I'd just have to know.

Appreciate the volunteerism though

Nice going, info is valuable

Interesting, May be a parts bonanza after all when we thought parts availability would dry up. People keep wreaking them and insurance co totaled them but a lot a great parts would then be available. Good Idea to keep track of them
