Okay, okay, I know I'm a tad obsessive! I have brought this up before, but I find this stuff fascinating.
We have heard rumors of train wrecks with carloads of SSR's, transport truck accidents, etc, but I have been unable to verify any of this. To date the only evidence I have is an unconfirmed report of a freshwater flood in a GM facility.
I have copied a portion from my VIN Registry. 15 of these SSR's are Totalled.
I have reason to believe the other 14 are actively titled, totally oblivious to how fortunate they were!
This section of the Registry absolutely "leaps" out at me!!!
No where else in the registry do I show evidence of anything remotely close to this fatality rate, not even with the early Pilots.
I have noted the only Build Dates I am aware of. Notice one of the survivors has a Build Date one week later.
All Totaled ones (that I have Build Dates for) were built between 9/19/2005 - 9/21/2005.
Some of these SSR's were "parted out" with no miles on them.
The Junk title Registry confirms some of these Titles were registered "Junk" almost immediately.
I feel when I account for the other 75 VINs in this group I may find a good portion of them will be Totaled also.
Something happened on or just after September 21, 2005!
The search goes on!

Your picture copying assist helped me a lot. I was able to post a lot of pictures of ones we haven't tied a VIN to yet.
It makes it easier to look at the pictures than for folks to have to open up links, as most won't bother.

I will look closer to see if this storm affected an area where a bunch would have been.

I had a conversation with Bob Walczyk this morning.
He emailed me late last night in response to this issue, asking me to call him this AM.
It was with a certain amount of trepidation I placed the call as I had visions of Bob placing a "Gag Order" or "Cease and Desist" on me as sometimes I think I may be driving the poor man nuts.
After many email communications it was fun to finally speak with Bob by phone, a great guy, and as usual more than happy to assist in any way he can. He even indicated he enjoyed my questions. What a guy!!
I learned much about many other little things but will deal with these JUNK TITLES only here.
Rumours of a flood at a GM facility are unfounded. So that idea is put to bed.
However, the answer is:
These were built as test units for changes scheduled to take place in MY2007 and subsequent years, none of which came to fruition obviously. After serving their intended purpose, these type units are turned over to salvage companies with the proviso they must be parted out and not sold as a whole unit. I do not believe any of these had an RPO specific to this on their Build Sheet. (VS7 - Non Saleable) comes to mind.
They were not built as EX VIN's obviously, which was another choice GM had, nor were they built as WD1 Pilots.
They were built only as BARS ORDER TYPE: 111 - SCRAP.
The Titles were registered JUNK MI 10/1/2005 but I think that was a sign of the fate to come and had not necessarily yet served their purpose. I believe it meant they were never going to be anything but Scrapped vehicles at the end of the day.
There were changes required to be made in future builds commencing MY2007. One was the instrument cluster notification for the airbags, "Active Bags". Another change for future model years was different floor pans. There may have been other changes but none more were mentioned. I know there were subtle body changes projected but unsure if this was involved.
At the time these were built in 9/2005 the 2007 SSR was still in the plans as the GM the Press Release announcing the impending closure of LCC was not made until 11/21/2005.
Bob is trying to confirm other VIN's that may be in the same group that are uncovered to date.

I have come to the conclusion Barakouda wrote off 2 Aqua Blurs.
The first accident was just prior to his association with SSRFanatic but the pictures of this one are posted in his Gallery.
In the following post he relates a bit of the tale.

Well I missed the boat to order one but I found a 06 Aqua blur with the chrome package at a dealer in Minnesota. I am glad as it was the only one to pop up in a nationwide search. I do not have the dealer details as I purchased it from the dealer here that sold me my 05.
Check out the pictures, it had a sad end of life on Sept, 4. (2005)
I now need to ship it here but I may just do a fly drive.
Having been "out of it" for several months due to injuries, I almost seem to have missed out fully.
I will post the dealership on Monday when I find out which one. Supposedly it is in the showroom.
I can't wait to drive it and may fly out Friday night. Anyone for a cruise form Minnesota to Boston?

His '06 was beautiful.
Last I heard from Rich, he was moving back to Australia. Hope he's doing well.
I'll never forget him playing his didgeridoos on the porch of the Hotel in Durango at the second Colorado Rally. He won the Bobby Adam Jr. award for long distance at that rally, and I've previously posted pics of the gas door award installed on his truck on this site.
Great guy!
Last time I saw him, he was waving goodbye in the parking lot at the hotel.
One more thing, Rich had great plans for customizing his R before it was totaled - I bought a new MPD chin spoiler from him after the demise of his truck.
It now is installed on Smokey's truck.

From all the posts I read and how much folks enjoyed him at events indeed he seemed like a great guy!
Rich pm'ed me a long time ago and said he could not recall the VIN but would try to look it up. I never heard.
I could never make head or tail of the VIN vs date of accident but went with what was posted in the old VIN registry.
It wasn't until I could bring up the pictures together it became obvious they were 2 different SSR's.
Poor guy! Hope he is doing well. Anyway, I am missing the 2005 VIN.

Just received this VIN from LKQ. They also gave me 1GCES14H65B114344 which I already had as a Co-Part auction but certainly a sign of good intentions. Received confirmation these are the only 2 they have had.
They have a fair amount of SSR stuff on their ebay site. I will add them as a parts contact in Post #1.
6/24/2010: Copy of note received from LKQ Salvage.
I ran a carfax and it is titled as "junk" vehicle. Noted color is black. My warehouse says they crushed the vehicle already. It's resting place was in Crystal River, FL.
Sorry I can't be more informative than that. That is about all the info I have for it.
I just noticed in Jays note to me how reverent he was!
He must have taken my reference to our "dearly departed" quite seriously!

Rebel PM'd me saying he had seen it also and described it pretty well with the two barrels and engine with a blower.
As a WD1 Pilot, it may have been a test truck for VYJ (chrome). I see it had a chrome spear and hood emblem.
I was wondering what the emblem on the door was. "E85" was not a term I was familiar with so I googled it.
So, would that be used corn oil in the drums? Imagine what that puppy weighed with a full load of fuel?
