What do you think the average price for a custom paint job is?

I am curious what it costs for custom paint on an ssr. I know there are alot of different variables but I am thinking maybe flames or something like that.

Thanks.

My advice...before you commit to a paint shop...take a look at projects they have completed. Nothing worse than a bad/sloppy job

Seems about right.... 'cept I didn't pay that much. My painter was fairly young and new, without much exposure when I found him. He is now painting a car for the SEMA show.

It's not so much about price as it is talent. I would have paid more if I had to, in order to get an awesome artist to do it, but I was lucky with my timing. Whatever you do, be sure you see the results of his or her talents in person, on other vehicles first. If you're lucky enough to be near North Carolina look up "Juan-in-a-Million" (Juan) of Airkolors, he's at JAG Motorsports. Check out Welcome to AirKolors.com

depending on how much surface you flame or repaint , and also reclearing panels to make sure their is no tape lines or surface variations you can feel .

ie : if you 2 toned your truck , you would obviously want to clear your full door and quarters , fenders so there is no touchable lines.

3k to 6k for a full door jambs and engine bay custom paint job i would say.

As some of the others have already said "It depends on how much you do" and the intesity of the custom graphic(s) you agree to.

Around these parts a minor graphic can cost about $2500.

An all out graphic with multiple colors will start around $10K and go up from there.

You also have to look at the quality of workmanship your painter does. Just because it's expensive does mean it's high quality. Look at what they've painted, ask questions, go look at some off them in person and ask the owners of the vehicles what they think.

A good custom painter will be able to refer you to some of his recent customers as well as some that were completed a number of years ago. These will give you an idea of the longevity of his workmanship.

Personally, I have at least one vehicle that was completed 24 years ago that still looks great, and another that was done 19 years ago that is exceptional enough to still win shows.

Don't rush into anything.

It might help to know where you are located, maybe someone can give you a local painter to check into.

That was a few years ago, wasn't it Carl? Adjust for inflation, and you're in the $ 3500 - $ 4500 area.....still looks great though.

Your right about that price. when He finished my truck he said you will never get it done for that price again. Last year I paid more for just a little paint work on my Vette.

Graphics

I used vinyl for the graphics on the SSR. The cost was $250 and if I change my mind I can do so with out spending a lot of cash. I have not seen flames done with vinyl.

Price will also depend on the type of paint you use, like House of Kolor.

A lot of the cost in a custom paint job is the labor to disassemble and assemble the car (sometimes several times, depending on what you're getting done).

That's a really good point. If they take your vehicle apart (like they should) it will cost more than a "tape job".

An important point to take in consideration. When you spend for a custom paint job, make sure you realize that you are doing it for your own pleasure and not necessarily for increased or future value. Here is a prime example of a custom paint job that will probably in the end cause the truck to be worth less than a plain factory paint.....it was probably his pride and joy and now turns a LOT of people and potential buyers off.
