Will the Dash Crack?

I am in FLA. driving with the top down to work and back, 6 hours in the sun. Will my dash crack? Has any one suffered a cracked dash? Should I buy a dash mat? THX.

I've been using a dash mat on all my vehicles only because of the ugly glare of plastic you see on the windshield from time to time. Not once have I seen any of the dashes crack.

No worries. Wipe on something when you dust with a solar/UV resistance coating like ArmorAll, I don't have any problem with glare - I had an anti-glare/anti-UV film applied to the interior of the windshield.

Sun does more damage than imaginable. Follow what others are saying here and you should be okay. I would also put ArmorAll on all things rubber.....like outside seals around windows.

Didn't know they had such a thing. Pricey?

Its about $95.00
Sharptoys GF has a Detail and tint shop. She did it.
He told me about it at a Tech day and I liked the way
it looks on his SSR, its the slightest of tints but
I really like the non-glare aspect at night. My eyes are so
touchy with glare and headlights
And of course here in Sunny Fla its nice having it
easier on the eyes.

Thank you I did not know there was an anti-glare for the windshield. Night driving especially when it is raining is scary sometimes.
I also treat my dash and keep a sun shield up when parked

Check out 3m Prestige Sun Control films, they are clear, optical grade, colorless and non-mirror glass film coatings that also reduce infra-red and UV transmission. Many types and uses. I never saw a reference to using for car windshields, I just did it. Over a year now and worth it just for the heat reduction in the cab.

Good ole COMMON SENSE should prevail here, Meg . . .

Regular use of a quality UV Vinyl Treatment plus always use a Sun Shield or a full Dash Cover when shade parking is not an option.

Talking No Dash cracking here...

I have the solution... just keep it parked in the garage 98% of the time like I do.

Ghost Rider, Get BLACK mat!

I bought Silver to match my R and it reflects in the windshield, can't see a dam thing. Order Black, NO problem.

Wouldnt worry about the truck..worry about your head, face, ears, back or neck, arms, etc. Now those are prioritys. Can always live with a cracked dash! Christmas greetings, Rob

The dash won't crack. It's solid ABS plastic unlike the dash caps of the 60s to 80s that were made of vinyl over foam over a rigid core. I also don't recommend anything like armor all. It will "outgas" and collect on the windshield and it's damn near impossible to get off!

The plastic does reflect, so I'd also recommend the fabric dash mat. I don't have one as I don't live in an area that gets such intense sun, but might get one some day.

Armorall is not breathable. It will cause vinyl or rubber to crack. Use 303 Protectant. Use it on the seats and all door and roof seals. It makes the difference.

I put nothing on mine and don't have any cracking. It is always parked outside.
I don't live in the south, but I do see the sun sometimes...

Mine is 8 years old.
