The winter projects start
Put the R to bed last weekend.. so started doing some of the stuff I had been planning for this winter;
Insulated the whole roof cavity, and installed the foam deadeners behind the vents. took the pic before I re installed the factory insulation blanket with new velcro .
Also insulated the rear deck lid that was open from the mickey mouse insulation from GM to the lid where there was a large gap. Figured it couldn't hurt. Top operates fine.
While I was at it, did the doors and behind the speakers. Got em back together and everything still works
Thanks to Dicktator and xs-cash for their advice / posts... made it a lot easier.
It is snowing here today , BUT if it gets nice next week again, maybe I'll take out for a spin to really see what the difference is.... I have the top up so rarely anyway!

got a chuckle out of "everything still works" Gary. I know what you mean as "everything doesn't always work" is my experience so it is always nice when it does
where did you get your stuff Gary. I was going to bring home a roll of peel n' stick from Lowes but I decided I did not want to pack that heavy thing in the car.
I would just pick it up in Canada and pay the extra cost that everything seems to have attached to it north of the 49th.
Fat chance, I shopped all summer to no avail. Even Lowes themselves claim to have no skew number for peel and stick of any description. Come April there will be one in the back of the Blazer this time, guaranteed.
Lets us know what the road test tell you once the roads dry up over there as I see the snow is coming and going in a hurry and +5C/42F by Tuesday.

Lowes here does not carry the Peel and Stick either. Went all the way through customer service to Head Office and they did offer to bring some in. Took the opportunity to drive to Kalispell and get in some golf instead. Only size any of them carried was the 8" wide, so I bought 10 rolls. Wasn't gonna be short! I used 7 to do what I did. Am thinking I will use the rest on the inside of the rear box.... remove the carpet there and do the whole back side of it. Can't hurt..
Yeah taking off the door panels for the first time.. didn't know what to expect but it was easy, even for me!

Nice job Gary. You will see (hear) a big improvement. However, I would leave the windows down about 1/4" during the winter and put in several opened boxes of baking soda on the floor to help remove the odor from the peele and stick.

Thanks for the heads up.. do keep the windows down in the winter while I putter with it, never would have thought of the outgassing from the Peel & Stick though. Thanks!

Just had to know!
Well. had the all bedded down for the winter, but it was killing me to know what difference the insulating made. Today was pretty warm and the streets are dry.. Took 'er out with the top up for a spin. All I can say is WOW.
Didn't even sound like the same car/truck! Both good and bad I guess. Never have the radio on since I like listening to the exhaust. but now can hardly hear anything! (Altough my wife says that all the time anyway).
Worth doing though. Still glad the top isn't up too often anyway

told ya !!
another one of the mod's that is a must do to any ssr!!!!
doing this mod reduces the noise considerably!!!!
My SSR: 2004 Ultra Violet completely stock ... for now !!
Hmmmm looking out the window ..... Sunny and clear +2 .... And NO snow.
So how long did it take you to do that Gary ? I was thinking of ordering some dynamat or something along those lines for the 75 Trans Am, quite noisy and gets very warm in the summer.
Just seeing what works well and doesn't require me to refinance my house !!
I may put that in more than 1 of my cars

Good afternoon project Rob. Took about 2 1/2 hours to do the back and about 1/2 hour to do each of the doors. I used Peel and Stick from Lowes in the US. Lot cheaper and a bit thicker than Dynomat stiuff. Couldn't find it in Canada though
