THE PLOT THICKENS, LT . . . if I'm not losing it completely, I remember Jeff (RRR) posting late yesterday that he was in Colorado visiting in-laws.
I wonder if he is toting a laptop or using a borrowed computer?
He is useing a Library PC at this time. RRR that is. I gave him some instructions on how to remove it from his PC. RRR is still Vacationing in Colorado.

XP Antivirus 2008 IS NOT A VIRUS (see definition).
Antivirus 2008 XP is a type of Rogue AntiSpyware Programs.
Rogue anti-spyware programs are fake applications that are cleverly disguised to behave like legitimate spyware removal programs. Rogue anti-spyware programs are usually created by hackers with the sole purpose of rendering a sale for the rogue application. Many rogue anti-spyware programs use deceiving tactics to entice computer users to purchase the rogue anti-spyware program. In many cases computer users do not realize that they have downloaded or installed a fake anti-spyware program until after the sale has taken place. Rogue Anti-Spyware Programs are bogus applications that usually require an extra effort to completely uninstall or remove from your system. Computer infections such as Trojans are known to install rogue anti-spyware programs which do not remove parasites or justify the abnormally high cost of the full version.
I received emails from another whose address book I was in but did NOT download any of the emails to open on my 'puter and there is nothing so far that indicates she had a virus or just a simple glitch in her system. A thorough scan of my system indicates nothing got through my hardware and software firewalls as it comes up clean.
If anyone received crazy emails from me they have not indicated to me that they had.
Well I spent 5 hrs on two HardDrives and the Virus was designated as a Trojan. McAfee cleaned and deleted the Trojan from my computer. The problem with this one is that it attaches it's self to your restore area or Archived Backup files. So even if you try and use the restore function it won't help. I tried to restore at a three month previous setting and the Trojan was still there. You have to clean the virus from your HD. It takes a long time because the Restore Function is a Huge Block on your HD.

Restore will always maintain any software that has been installed on your system even if you go back til the beginning of time...software, including spyware, virus', etc. must be removed either manually or by a program designated specifically for the purpose.
The problem with the XP Antivirus 2008 is that in itself it is NOT a virus but if you fall for what its telling you a Trojan can be downloaded which will affect your system. Hackers spend a multitude of hours creating pop-ups that look valid, if one is not careful to investigate its source then the hard-drive is vulnerable. This CAN and WILL happen regardless of the browser you are using...even Mac's are not 100% protected.
I am not a techno geek by any stretch of the imagination but I do know that a hardware firewall is one of the best investments made for your system. Virus' and spyware read the firewall as your computer and is aimed directly at that but there is no place for it to embed and the virus/spyware/malware is turned back. Also, all that are using wi-fi make sure you are on a secure connection.
I am more inclined to believe that the mass emailing from another Fanatic's email was a glitch in the service/program she uses.

Getting ready to run some programs .....I noticed when I arrived home my AVG virus detector didn't update this morning and is not protecting my systems right now.
It should take and hour or two to run the programs gonna shut down for a little while...... while doing so

I'm not surprised. In all the emails I received I saw nothing to indicate they were carrying anything...nothing to open, no links, etc. Its possible your and my email scanner or firewalls caught them or nothing was sent anyway.
Someone is going to have to convince me it wasn't a glitch.
I set all my scans to run overnight while I was sleeping.

Well if nothing else happens the rest of the week, I will delete this thread. I just wanted to err on the side of caution to make sure that if an email virus was around that we all were informed as quickly as possible so that the damage would be minimal.
Thank you for your cooperation.
