04 Speedometer Problem

I had the speedometer problem last week where it just sticks when you are driving. It stopped at 57 MPH and would not move when I speed up or slowed down. Finaly I stopped and it went down to the bottom of the gauge. When I shut down and restarted it went back to normal. I did a thread search but didn't find what I was looking for. I know some of you have had this problem. Did Chevy put out a bulletin on it? Also did it keep getting worse untill it quit completely or did the problem stay random? I am asking because I am now on my extended warrenty and if you take it in and they don't find a problem they charge you. It is working OK now so I don't think they will do anything about it.

I had this problem on my '04 Ultra Violet in November last year. I'm not sure if my husband asked about it or not but there might be more info to find. We were going to SEMA in Vegas and my odometer at one point was reading 75 and EVERYONE was flying by us. I had a navigation system and we checked the speed on it and I was going 48mph. It was a real blast when my odo showed we were going 148mph ( actually 80). We went to the dealership in Vegas and he said they were having problems with it, they new about it and it would take 8 days to get the part to fix it from CAlifornia. - I told him I was from Cali and I would get if fixed when I got home.

Strange thing, after I talked to the dealership, it never happened again!? I think the Ultrviolet is possessed. - Brat

Me too...

and this thread too:
140 MPH at 2500 rpms

I've had it happen a couple more times - I've got it on the list for the dealership to fix while still under warranty...

My speedo pulled this over the weekend...

Looked down and needle was pointing straight down... Rebooted (err shut off/ restarted SSR) and watched the needle try to do 'the sweep' - but seemed like it hung up a bit. Continued to drive - and from what I could tell the needle was 180 degrees off. Rebooted at the next Starbucks - saw the gauge "Zero Out" at the 30mph mark.

Restarted again - zeroed out at 25
Restarted again - zeroed out at 20
Restarted again - zeroed out at 15
Restarted again - zeroed out at 10
Restarted again - zeroed out at 05
Restarted again - Stopped at zero and has been fine ever since...
