'05 Oil pressure

What kind of oil pressure are you guys seeing in the 05-06 LS2's? I realize the gages are probably not overly accurate, but I'm seeing around 40psi at around 2k RPM, and drops to around 30 at idle. I have a 2001 Trans-am with an LS1, and it runs around 50-60 at around 2k RPM, 40 or so at idle. I was just expecting similar #'s, and was suprised when it was staying that low. And yes, I'm sure I'm just being paranoid!

CW: Your psi sounds about the same as mine, I don't push my 'R' and have not had reason to worry, so far! Scheide.

I can check exactly where mine is at idle for you today. The internal priority oiling has changed in the LS2 as compared to the LS1.

oil pressure

Did my first oil change today @6300 miles with 6 qts. mobil 1. After the change and engine started I watched the gauge come up to 40 psi @idle rpm. No leaks and reset the engine oil life monitor to 100%. Mine is a 05 6-spd. The reason I changed the oil with 42% life remaining is I got it used with 5600 miles on it. I noticed it was 1/2 qt low and thought it best to change it as the car was built 11/04 and probably never had an oil change. The delco filter was on it.

I have the same preasure as above, mine is also a 2005 6 Speed. I have changed the oil/filter 3 times already and I only have 3200 miles on it so far. I have always changed the oil/filter first at 500, second at 1500 and third at 3000. I do oil/filter changes at every 3000 miles there after. All oil/filter changes were done with Mobil 1 synthetic. I know some will say this is overkill, I started doing it this way when building engines years ago.

I don't think the OP gauge is particularly accurate

It does move... yeah, but not like like what I've gotten used to. The digital in my previous ride (and those who've changed out to analog like Autometer), the OP should fluctuate far more than we see on our gauges. Cold engine, it should read high, (mine would read 90 PSI, then drop quickly as the motor warmed up), then drop to a normal range, crusing, 40-50 PSI, higher when you WOT it. Idle, I would see it drop to as low as 20 PSI, warm engine, in gear, foot on brake. I think our gauges are engineered to stay within a certain range, though they will show 0 if there's no pressure.

Ford, in their wisdom, installed falsie gauges in my previous car. The OP would either be 0 or 45, nothing inbetween. It basically was an idiot light.

Though this is speculation on my part, I would guess that our IC oil pressure gauges are programmed not to show the large fluctutations in OP that you see on a normal OP gauge, for the same reason Ford did with their "idiot light" gauge. Customer complaints, warranty claims that the OP is too high on startup, or it drops too low on idle.

your oil pressure is right were it should be. A good rule of thumb is 10 psi for every 1000 rpm, if your in that area you are ok, so if you have 40psi at 2000 rpm you are sitting good
